Title: Replacing Shock, Springs and all top mounts tomorrow - advice pls!
Post by: GOLF_MK on 10 April 2009, 22:57
As the title says i'm finally fitting my Supersport 60/40 kit complete with top mounts etc front and rear tomorrow.

Now i do have a set of spring compressors but as i'm putting in new top mounts front and rear am i going to need to use them on the old springs to take anything off them that i will need to fit to the new items?

Obviously i'll need to use the compressors on the new ones as they are two completely seperate items at the moment

I have already had the front top mount nuts loosened with an air gun and have been soaking the lower nuts in penetrating oil so i'm hoping not to have too many problems even though it's my first attempt at a change like this!

you'll need the spring plates off your old shocker... there's my suspension guide in the maintnence section which has a fitting guide (its based on coilover's but the basics are the same)

Just got to go and get a 17mm socket and a torque wrench in the morning and i can get going.
I realised tonight that i smashed my 17mm socket a couple of months ago!!

Those guides are a great help - especially the rear as i didn't realise there was a nut inside the rear axle i would need to hold (or is that Mk2 only?)

I don't remember holding a bolt on mine but as the rear suspaension is identical to the mk2 I would get prepared just in case!

Rear was easy. I did one side at a time so the rear beam didn't hang.

All done today without any problems, ride is actually ok and handling is much better with little (if any) roll, very happy with the way it looks too.

Will hopefully post some before and after pics in my dub rides thread tomorrow.

Just got to get tracking/camber done now!
