Title: Idling Problems?
Post by: Riz on 10 April 2009, 17:25
My Idling seems to have gone lumpy also the Revs rise then drop when stationary. Is this a TDC issue?
Only noticed it today, power seems to be ok, maybe a slight MPG drop but hard to  tell to be honest!!!

Could be your plugs...

No warning lights?

MAF maybe  :undecided:

Best bet would be to get it vag-com'd (VCDS) but if it is the MAF they don't tend to generate a code in general.  You need to monitor the air flow on a run to see if its OK.

With MK4's a low tech way of testing the MAF was to unplug it.  If it ran smoother when it was unplugged then that was the problem.  If it didn't make much difference then it didn't really prove anything.

27000

I still have 3 months left of warranty, recently bought the car so havent transferred those details over as of yet.

Is it safe to drive the car?

It is a little early for a MAF failure but you never know.  They are the work of the devil.  Could be something completely different too mind, I'm just speculating

Under warranty?  Happy days

Probably is safe enough to drive shortish distances - but don't sue

AA thinks it may be the Coil pack, but not sure, their diagnostic kit didnt pick anything up!!

£5 says its the MAF

Like I said MAF faults generally don't cause a code until its proper fecked.

Faulty coil packs would have left a misfire code.

Dont bother getting the AA involved. Its under warranty, take it back and get them to sort it out.
