Title: What should the idle speed be?
Post by: krhall on 09 April 2009, 21:16
What should the idle speed be on my 1.8 cabrio? I reckon it is far too low at 750 and needs to be nearer 1000 rpm?

Also if it is too low how do I go about adjusting it, what tools? where? and how?

Cheers,
Kev

Mines a non-cab but a 1.8 mk3 and idles about the same. Just above rattly... works for me :)

vacum leaks are common on the 1.8 and this lowers the idle speed (and can make it slightly lumpy!)

i would say 750 is not far off. Its an automatic idle, you cannot adjust or change it. Your idle point depends on all the various sensors, so if it sounds a bit rough or not quite right then start looking into it starting where bradley says.
