Title: ABF wiring!?
Post by: plasticfantastic on 09 April 2009, 20:49
Hi all,

Well all is going well so far with fitting my new engine, engine and box are now sitting ready to install.

i have laid the loom out in the engine bay and passed it through the bulkhead and into the fusebox.

i recieved my ecu, immobiliser box and key today. i assume i tie the key into the ring that attatches to the box? where does the box plug into the loom?

also from reading the fusebox faq i can see that the plug G1 in the fusebox has this wire disconnected:

4 - blk - ignition coil pin 15 and/or TCI Unit and/or 16V CIS-E Motronic control unit pin 14 (GTI models) or inlet manifold heater & autochoke thermoswitches pin 1 (1.6 & 1.8 carb models)

where should this go?!

im sure over the comming days i'll have a few more question's, as i have a few connectors on the mk3 lighting loom that dont seem to have anywhere to go in the fusebox?! but i'll sort some pics out to help!

Cheers in advance for any help

?Assuming you have started with a MK2, take the abf lighting loom back out again, refit the mk2 one ;)

Hi,

Yes i have started with a mk2, its a 91 8v.

So does that mean i have to unwrap the mk3 loom to remove the lighting loom?!

Cheers

not at all, MK2 and MK3 lighting loom is totally seperate from the engine loom :)

Thats a little strange then,

When i bought the loom it was advertised as a mk3 golf loom, but it had the light loom integrated and doesn't seem to have been messed with at anypoint!?

Also if it was a seat loom didnt i read that the ecu plug would have enough lengh in the wiring to be able to fit it in the original mk2 location? mine isn't long enough...

i have pretty much got all the loom sorted now, mk3 engine loom and mk2 lighting loom now runtogether and i have sorted my route, just waiting for my loom tape to be delivered then i can finish it up. once it is out of the car for wrapping i can finish the last few jobs like extending the wiper motoer plug, adding the mk2 coil wires and sorting the coil trigger wire.

Here's hoping it actually runs when im finished!

Cheers again for all your help guy's

yeah it must be a SEAT loom then, the one in my garage and the one on my mates abf swap are MK3 looms with lighting seperate from engine.

its not a massive deal though, just open it out and strip the bits you dont need.  My fusebox faq will help you id the plugs, but you can just start at the ecu plug and pretty much bin everything that isnt connected to it.

try to ID as m,any of the plugs as you can before you stary, and as you're unwrapping the loom put a bit of tape round it every 30cm or so, to hold it all in roughly the right shape.
