and all i can say is wow. i took the rocker cover off and felt the chain and it was very slack with about 1-2cm of play in it. so i put the new one on, started it up, and no real improvement...exept it being alot quieter...
so i thought the timing would now be way out, which it was. so i borrowed a timing gun... sorted the timing, renewed the vacuum hoses and a new air filter.
Then i went out for a test drive, got it up to temperature, and put my foot down, and f**k, it flys now. Im astonished at the difference it has made, really its like driving a different car. before it would stutter when puling away sometimes, and dint really have that sweet spot over 4-5000 revs, and now it does.
if anyone thinks they need a new cam chain, replace it now, you wont regret it, well worth the £8 for the chain and the 4 hours it took me!
the mpg reading is still really low. been driving about today, really caining it, and it returns 15mpg on the mfa. whats with that?

Ummm, try joining the dots up in the line above - there may be some connection between driving enthusiastically.....

mine can do over 40 mpg but has also been known to empty a tank in 75 miles. depends how you drive it . also mfa is good at lieing

hi there, there is a possibility that the better running is actually due to the new air filter and more so re-timing the vehicle and replacing the vac hoses

yeah, im pretty sure theres a vacuum leak still, been driving it about, and its only used quarter of a tank and ive done over 100miles of mixed driving, reads 15.9 constantly haha.
the air filter wasnt that bad at all, it would make sense for it to be the cam chain, as the slackness in the chain would affect the timing of the inlet valves and the responsiveness of the car. The timing was done shortly before i bought the car and serviced too. Theres still a few things i need to sort out, it seems to be slightly missfiring when idle after starting the car until it gets warm. apart from that, its all good :D pulls like a train.
