Title: something is wrong with my golf
Post by: Devilz on 08 April 2009, 22:26
hi all, need ur help

i got golf mk4 1.8 20v turbo. I was on my way to hinckley today and noticed temperature guage shooted to far right and started to give me warning to check coolant, service manual and stop. I checked the coolant level which was alright, started car again and temperature was in middle. After half mile, temperature guage went up again and gave same warning, stopped again but couldn't figure out whats wrong. so called mechanic who came down and we brought car back to his workshop.

Spend all day today trying to fix it but its still the same. Tried replacing temperature switch and thermostat but didn't worked. Tomorrow plan is to check water body, radiator and head gaskit.

Anybody got any idea what could be the problem so i can resolve the issue. And worst part is I was on my way to R-tech for remap which couldn't be done cause of this

No but if you do the cam belt + tensioner at the same time = fair bit of money.

Another way to check is by feeling the top hose and also your heating inside the car wouldn't be working........

If yours is not over heating you need a new coolant bottle as the sensor fails.
Costs around 10 pounds

yes push the button on the side of your wiper stalk

i know by pushing those buttons it shows different things i.e. total time or total distance

is it normal when it keeps on giving u such readings?

Yup, depends on the position of the accelerator pedal. If you got it on immediate readings (not got Ø in front of value) it shoots up and down with your foot!

okay i will try to check readings today with this Ø on side

Faulty coolant tank (Sensor inside) - costs about 10 pounds from VW
