Title: My new GTI
Post by: stevengeelan on 07 April 2009, 22:03
Hello to all,

Just bought a Mk5 Golf GTI at the weekend (trading up from a 1.2 polo!!) Its a black, 06 plate with 23000miles.

Really happy with the GTI and loving having some power now, only issues I have are minor ones. The car came with rear mats but no front ones, was thinking about getting some rubber mats for front and rear (had the VW mats in the Polo), are GTI rubber mats available and where from and how much? Could only see normal Golf ones on the VW accessories page.

Also, my new car has a few stone chips on the bonnet, which is to be expected with a black car. But I was wondering if anyone has tried the VW paint stick and if there any good?

Congrats mate. We need pics!

Mats - buy them from the dealers. Don't think rubber mats are available.

I've bought the paintstick, was only a few quid ~£8 i think. Comes with the paint stick and the clearcoat stick. Will be trying to tackle my paintwork this easter, weather permitting of course!

mine is an 06 plate black one as well, rubber mats are avaialble for da car, but get the posh carpet ones for summer and rubbers for winter.

Just ordered a set of GTI carpet mats from my local dealership, £69 which I didnt think was too bad, considering a set of normal golf mats were £59.

You can get paint sticks from your VW dealership too, I dunno how much they are or how good they are, I imagine there pretty good though, a salesman at the dealership said he had an R32 out for a run,  got a stonechip and used the paint stick to cover it when he got back.

Gonna give the car a good wash this weekend, so I'll put some pics up soon.

Painsticks are around £5-£8 from the dealer as I remember. Comes in a small pack-paint&lacquer.

Got my paintstick from the dealer - just above £5 for the paint and the laquer.

I got a paint stick from vw but there was no seperate laquer  :undecided:  Is there a version that has the laquer mixed into the paint?  Its tornado red if that makes any difference...

Also I'd advise getting some artists brushes (B&Q sell a set for about £3).  The one supplied is way too big...

Your monzas look immaculate mate. Get some poor boys wheel sealant on them to keep them that way and just use nice warm water to clean them.

Unfortunately they aren't quite perfect  got a few cases of white worm, they aren't curbed or scratched in any though which is good.

What is the cure for white worm? Is it just a case of getting them redone completely?
