Title: How To's
Post by: Len on 07 April 2009, 16:36
Sounded a good idea on paper but now I've seen the test I think its too much.
Plus pepes cant add to them or ask questions.

Well I'm guessing the idea is to delete the threads that make up this coverall How To ???
If so then its not a good idea in my book!

Well I can allow the original HOW TO creator to add to is and then they can modify it when needed, and I'll just put a No Spam message up, if someone wants to comment on it they can do so in a separate thread maybe? (Like a stickied thread dedicated to the HOW TOs but just for comments?)

I do hear what you're saying though, it's not perfect atm, I was waiting for people to comment to see how to go about it :)

Well IMO would be best left alone.

Folk around here are lazy and trawling through a huge thread is not what they do! hence we get loads of silly questions!
Be better to just create a load of seperate threads.

No trawling needed as thanks to Mew I just put the initial list up, and it will link you directly to the part you want :)

Ah right I see!

Well that does certainly make a difference! Yea guess that might work!

I didn't really want to do it unless there was a quick was to do it. If you have a look at it atm, it defo would work that way. But need to find a way to allow people to comment, the only thing I can think of is a separate dedicated thread or something.

It would save a lot of useless threads being made I reckon.

hopefully it will tidy all the "under used" maintence & info section up?

Dunno about that Shady! Like I said folk are lazy and will post a new thread without even doing a Search!

Indeed, and then the same can be implemented into the mechanical side of things to, and be a lot tidier too.

Len - We'll just make a sticky with the thread title "DO A FECKING SEARCH FIRST YOU LAZY BASTARDS!!!" ;) :P

Then its up to the mods/forum members to point them in the right direction and delete topics not needed...
good luck guys... I'm just off tidying the nonsense as well! :afro:

We will set them straight Len, otherwise they will just clog up the forum, we are on a mission to keep it as clean and tidy as possible :)

I might sound cynical but just been realistic here!

You will always get the "sorry but I did a search and found nothing" etc!

Oh don't worry Len, I used to be one of those :P all we can do is try, to be fair, we do it already, it'll just be we are doing it and keeping things organized instead. You can be the official badass if you want and tell newbies what to do? :P

"DO A SEARCH!"
"I did..."
"NO YOU DIDN'T!!!! I've been monitoring your activity!!!"

I try to modify the thread title's to make searching easier.... but you'll find the search function under used in all the sections on here but unless we become slick mk2's and delete/lock all the searchable posts!!  ..

I think we don't get too many issues really!! Most in the mk3 section seem clever enough to search  :undecided:

I would agree, we are an intelligent bunch here :D just make things more streamlined and helpful by doing this too :)

4 stud/5stud pics!?

Stating the obvious Shady!

The real thing that always confuses me is the offset. I know there is the definitive info around on here somewhere!

Still not happy about these!

Got a question about Guys brilliant How To rear Aero wiper, but as its in a locked section then ya cant ask!
Yes I could start a new thread but if anything pertinent comes out of it then either a Mod or I assume Guy can alter it??

Yea but what I was thinking was if what I had asked had a bearing on the How To needing to be changed or whatever.
Just thinking aloud really.

I like the How To's being up there and easily found but they aint the whole story sometimes!

well if a better way is found then the OP or a mod can edit the original post or create a new one?

Well because Lenny boy is such a fuss ass  when I get time I'll change all of the links in the HOW TO bible to the original threads they were made in, that way if anyone needs questions answering they can :)

It'll be easier that way me thinks.

Because there are so many HOW TOs there for cosmetic and mechanical things, it's a pain in the backside. If they are all in one thread and linked up effectively the same thing as stickying the original thread but it's just not stickied...?
