Hi all,
As my post count will show I am new to this forum and actually to Volkswagen and golf ownership. So hello.
I bought an old Mk3 at the auctions on Friday last week and picked it up yesterday afternoon and it was a real mess.
Anyway a good wash, 1 coat of Auto-Glym Paint Renovator, 1 coat of AG super resin polish, 1 coat of AG Extra Gloss Protection and all the black bits done in AG bumper care later and it looks a lot better.
Don't know much about Vdubs though. This one is a 1.8 Cabriolet in kind of light jade greenish.
95k with a fully stamped up book and MOT and Tax until end of October.
The hood is all good and doesn't appear to have any rips, tears or anything. In fact I would say the car is totally original..........including the sony cd head unit, oh except the wheels which are aftermarket Ronal R20 wheels and need a bit of attention, well the front two do.
So is there anything I need to know about the car? What are good (cheap) mods to make to the car.
Oh and how much should it be worth? In other words was it the bargain I think it was?
It was only for getting the kids around as the wife has the car for work and I drive a bike normally, but I am off with the kids quite a bit this year, so need another car, but after driving it, it feels solid and nice to drive. I'm kicking myself I didn't get a Gti a few years back when I was offered one.
Any advice appreciated.

Welcome to the site.

Well as its only a 1.8 its not a Gti. let alone the 8v/16v debate!
You dont say what year it is or the mileage so cant say anything about value for money!
Just spotted the mileage!

a cabrio bought just before summer should mean a good buy as when it really starts to get warm it demand should pick up
engine wise your milited on mods but you could fit the 2.0 lump with minmal fuss and the 2.0 (non gti cab) has the same shoddy brakes your 1.8 has  and this would be my first upgrade before more power!

Oh yeah good point it is an M reg 1994.
I was thinking more aesthetically though to be honest.
Might be worth keeping it until it gets warm and swapping for a gti?

Always best to sell a Cabrio in the summer, if we get one this year!
Not sure here and should check with Boney's info thread but I think they never did a 16v cabrio so never a true Gti!
There are some nice Colour Concept ones though.
Yea enjoy a bit of top down motoring then get a true Gti!

Shame about the colour
Might be popular with the girlies though

Yeah colour is well gay.....so what might it be worth?

Whatever someone is willing to pay for it!
But at a guess in mid summer if we get a goog one you might get £800 for it.
