Im getting a few stone chips on my bonnet due to motorway driving, which I do a lot of.
Is there anything I can apply to protect the bonnet?
-
you can get transparent film applied to the bonnet that will help prevent chips.

I had ventureshield applied to my bonnet, front grill and spolier, wings and bumper. I can't recommend it enough.. especially seeing the number of tiny stonechips I have collected in 2 weeks after putting the carbon fibre bonnet on. My normal bumper and rest of the car has zero chips

How much did it set you back??

Was thinking of getting some touch up paint and filling in the odd stone chips?
Has anyone ever tried this??

Alternatively you can go for http://www.venture-shield.co.uk/ . I don't have a vested interested in any particular film, but I found - to my surprise - that 3M film tends to yellow with age and isn't as UV-Transparent as Ventureshield - which means that colours like Red or lighter colours will tend to fade slightly where the film doesn't cover the paintwork and leave a noticeable difference in shade if/when removed. Thats why I chose Ventureshield. Anyway, do your research and decide whats best for you.

£500 but cheaper than a respray and as I do a lot of motorway driving myself it will keep the value of the car over time - 32k miles in the Ed30 in 18 months (I've kept it that low as I've done about 40k miles in other cars in that time)

Works a treat on black - as I found out with my 06 GTI... not sure about lighter colours. But I think you'ill forever be fighting it and in the end, the front end will look a bit messy.

That's the usual remedy mate once chipped = touch up paint or nose cone respray..
Any other form of formal protection really would need to be done/applied when new or after a nose cone respray for best results..

Good point.. if you already have a few chips then probably no point in getting a protection film - but again, its your choice.

That looks pretty bad Sharpie and the paintworks not so good either  The reason why modern VW paint is rubbish is because of an EU directive - its now water based instead of lead based and chips a lot more easily. Ditto for other makes of new cars too I'm sure.

I agree the paint seems really thin / fragile. I have a lot more chips on my tornado red than I've ever had on any other car. Seems to scratch if you look at it.
If you apply the touch up with small artists brush then cut it / fine polish (lots of elbow grease) you can get a decent result.
Good guide here
