Title: Insurance
Post by: VWKev on 06 April 2009, 14:02
Don't want to sound like an old man or a killjoy, but as I've never had my car chipped I'm wondering how much on average this bumps your insurance costs ?

depends on

1) your age
2) current insurance company
3) % of BHP increase

it varies from £50 to £200 or more

thing to do is shop around and get some quotes from the specialists

My renewal for my Edition 30 with Elephant was £500 ..... remapped they wouldn't cover it.  I went to Greenlight and got insured via them with Highway for £497.  They didn't add anything for the remap

Because I had a different car that they weren't cheaper on and sold it half way through the year to buy the Golf

If you have a crash or a bump it would show up on your diagnostics and bang goes your insurance. If you are going to remap your car get a quote first then you can budget for the two. Its up to you though but I know what i'd prefer to do.

If you bought a car not knowing it had been remapped and had a 'bump' are you suggesting you should be penalised and not be paid by the insurer?

...................oh and if you make sure the flash counter remains unaltered then it is extremely difficult to tell if a car has been mapped or not, especially if you buy a switchable one.

Surely you would have been told if it had been remapped or not before you bought it????

Yes that's what i would do. Nearly talked my misses into letting me have our car remapped. Will have to wait and see. Jealous of the boys who have already had it done.
