Title: Heaters/blowers always on??
Post by: twistedblack69 on 06 April 2009, 00:41
Is this a common thing?? Easy to fix?? Even when the dial on the heater controls is on 0 and the vents are shut, it's still "on", as in...if I'm on the motorway with the windows shut, it'll become too warm or too cold, there isn't any equilibrium

Mine on 0 still seems to make the car hot if the heat is all the way to the right.. Just still it in the middle with it on 0 and on windscreen blowers :)

You can't close off the intake like you can in newer cars.

Best thing to do is just make micro movements to the heat slider - that's all I do with mine on long journeys.

mine are only ever "on" when i move the slider to open the vents, i had the same problem as you have in my old mk2 jetta though. not sure what causes it, i never looked into it, i just opened my windows/sunroof if it got hot lol

you cant permanently turn them off, you can turn the blower motor off but there will still be heat escaping through the vents from the system and the only realistic way around it is to adjust the temperature till you find something you are comfortable with

i disagree ^^

mine only let out a VERY minimal amount (as in almost nothing at all) when my vents are shut off and the heater slide is turned to windscreen only and also set to 0.

How can you disagree - its not like you have a choice whether air gets in

As long as there's airflow over the air intake - air will blow out of wherever the switch is set to, be it face, windscreen etc.

You're options are, drive slower, then there's no air flow, or just keep twitching the temp control until its perfect.

A minimal amount is still letting heat out though isnt it so as said, its not completely off

ok i misread it, i thought OP was reffering to just the blowers in the front of the dash (not the windscreen heater part)  :embarassed:
