Hi boys,I know its a silly question but can i make my other halfs 1.4 any quicker. My 16vs not on the road and im having to run around in hers.I know its only a 1.4 but its ridiculously slow,Would a cam change help any????
-
No lol. You can make it marginaly quicker with work to the head etc but not worth any where near the expenditure. The later multipoint injection engine is alot better then the earlier single point though, seems to have a bit more of a kick but still slow!

pop in a v6 that should do the trick
-
lol,Ah well i just bores me to tears lol.You press go and nothing happens,I wasnt sure if i could put a different cam shaft in.
-
lol a vr6 would be good,Im sure would like that.I had an a6 quattro with the v6 in, she liked to drive round in that but i got fed up with filling the tank up lol.I know what it'll be tho when my 16v's ready she will want to use that lol.

i have to live with the 1.4 until my premium comes down  (or a decent gti becomes available!) (having said that, i drove my sisters 03' clio 1.2, and mine had alot more go about it then that did which i was pleasently surprise with!)

I have a forklift at work that had quicker pull of than our 1.4
-
I had a 1.4 it was pretty nippy without doing much too it! stick it out and wait till ur insurance premiums drop, thats what I did got a lovely GTI now

All the insides have gone out of my cat.. which I think has made it quicker (less restrictive?)
I drilled a few holes in the airbox and added a cold air feed, that seemed to make a difference too
Everyone I've taken out in my 1.4 says it's not as slow as they thought it'd be and one even said he's been in slower 1.6's
-
Yes the garage i take mine to constantly mistake it for a 1.6. The later 1.4s (multipoint) are really not as bad. They have the bad name because the early ones really were gutless. I can get a GTI insurance for about a grand now (1.4 is £600 atm) so i am looking, but not going to buy untill next year unless i see a really good un'!
-
I had an early 1.4 (Single point ABD engine) and it was really gutless compared to my 1.4 SE (Multi point AEX engine) and it didn't even have a 5th gear lol
I dunno what my insurance is at the moment cus my nan pays it, but in July I can insure my VR6 for 1200 so might just do that :)

the most cost effective way of increasing power on the 1.4 is to fit a 1.6 lump in.....from 60bhp to 74bhp and this will keep the same gearbox (all you need is the engine and ecu (with key etc if factory immboliser model)..if you get the abu engine you dont need to worry about the immmobiliser)

Sod it then lol,Im going to get my front mount bracket for my valver, well try lol
