Title: 16x9 alloys question
Post by: mo_utd on 04 April 2009, 17:23
When I first got my valver,it had 17s on em and it was so sluggish.then I got 15" bbs which made a massive difference in pick up and top speed. So my question is if I put 16x9s on will it slow my car down like the 17"??

depends on tyre profile. Low profile on 16's is gonna be a similar rolling radius to 50 profile on a 15.

Also depend on how much unsprung weight your adding to the car. bbs are generally quite light.

I had a set of 16 x 8" on my golf for a while and they were a little tight for space at the back but fitted fine.

9" may require some arch work depending on the tyre size you fit.

I have run both.  Personally, I've never noticed any real difference in performance but I much prefer the looks on 9s.  Obviously the perfect balance would be to run 15x9.  Archwork wise, I run g60 arches all round and have had the metal lips rolled (easy peasy job).  The arches never catch at all.
