I have a problem with my Mk II 16v. I'm trying to repair the gear stick ball and socket which fits into the floor. I can't seem to remove the ball socket and linkage. It says in the Haynes manual to remove the complete linkage, Do you have to do this ir there a way around it. ???
Thanks for your help

I think you have got to remove the whole lot.

If you are just replacing the ball, you do not have to remove the entire assembly.
It is a fiddly job and will take two people!
There was a link placed in one of the forums with full instructions.
Have a look for it if you intend to do the job yourself
