Does anybody know of any decent sound deadening kits for the current Golf GTI as the low profile tyres on 18 inch rims make the car very tiring. So much so that you cannot hear what the passengers are saying to you if they are in the back. All help welcome. many thanks.

Could it be the tyres themselves that are the problem?

I found that just changing the tyres can make a whole world of difference to the sound level inside the car. The quietest up till now have been the Vredesteins, but I've also had Kumho ecsta, Conti 2's and Conti 3's and am now running Goodyear F1's (but on 19").
The suspension also makes a difference. When I uprated to the Eibach coilovers the sound intrusion (to my surprise) actually reduced
Also I had my sound system uprated with new speakers all round. Whilst it was being built I had dynamat sound deadening put inside the doors floor and boot of the car. This alone made the biggest improvement to the car. The only downside is that the Dynamat isn't light.
HTH :nerd:

How much did the dynamat and associated labour charges cost?
-
Dynamat ain't cheap, but it is effective. The work was done at the same time as the install, so can't quote exactly. The install including all the dynamat, wiring, Speakers and sub (but not the head unit) came to approx £1300. So, less than the cost of a Quaife for top tunes
Oh and as you know I did the arch install myself for less than £100 (audio fitters wanted £500)
Tempted yet?
-
Its just that I was quoted £1k for floor, doors and boot although the material is better than dynamat. Half of that cost is labour  I just can't get myself to fork out that much for what is simply noise reduction, but I know I'll have to at some point - so it may as well be now

What tyres do you have? I have Michelin Pilots and hardly get any road noise at all. If I had a complaint it would be wind noise.

The tyre noise from mine has reduced dramatically after replacing the Bridgestones with GoodYear Assymetrics.

....Well I'm tempted to say you should politely ask your passengers to shutup and let you concentrate on your driving - I would, and do.
My complaint about the Mk5 is that there isn't enough noise inside the cabin of what's going on. It's actually why I got a Milltek.
I've run Conti's, Bridgestones, Goodyear directionals and now assymetrics but never noticed excessive tyre noise on Monza 18's.
Apparently the Mk6 has more sound-proofing than the Mk5 - I hate feeling caccooned in a car - Comfortably numbed.

Ditto........but to Flaken 452's, a huge difference

What are the cheapo Falkens like in terms of road noise?
