Title: mk5 can you tell if it's a euro/parallel import?
Post by: celica on 03 April 2009, 21:14
anything on the v5 which might suggest this?

i.e. from model/ type
variant
version
Vin number etc.?

I think i remember from my celica days, euro/parallel versions had certain letters etc in Vin number etc

Any good VW dealer () will confirm for you if it's an import/whatever by running the reg/vin through their computer.

Mine's a parallel import. Check the service book, it will have the PDI/dealer stamp on the first couple of pages. If no sticker(VIN) on inside of first page or dealer stamp, beware, he may have bought a duplicate service book! Easy give away!

Have you ever come across any issues with yours being an import? Looking at an parallel ED30.

You only get 2 years warranty, and that starts from when it's had it's PDI(will be date stamped in front of service book), not when it was registered! VW can confirm this.
I saved quite a bit, so missing out on a years warranty didn't bother me. The dealers have been fine with me and registered the car in the UK for me. No issues with any warranty work(remember the dealer is making money by doing warranty work), and servicing no problem. I plan to keep the car until it's over 3 years old, so there won't be any warranty left on the car. My car came from Holland, just be careful of cars from outside Europe(Cyprus), as these can miss out on rust-proofing etc.
