Title: lowering?
Post by: mattGTI20 on 03 April 2009, 18:42
I need a bit of advise i have just got a golf GTI 1.8T a coup[le of weeks ago and love the look of the golfs when they are lowered but i used to have a saxo VTR and lowered it which made it look nice and handle much better but used to knock and bang all the time when cornering does this happen at all with the golfs or do they run ok i no it wont be as comfy and a harder ride but just dont want problems with it. Also what does everyone think Golf GTI 1.8T 1999 jazz blue 39,000 miles full VW service history in brilliant condition £4000.

go for coilovers mate but if you intened to lower more than 40mm at front u will need to change the arb as they tend to catch.  also the hotunning coilovers on ebay or on here in the trade part seem to be a very good option for the money

If your only going to go 40mm,would it not be worth fitting lowering springs with matched dampers?

Mine on the old suspension

IF you lower a Golf it has to be 40mm+ IMO

That looks so good yeh i was thinking that but thats what i did to the saxo and it puts me off a bit now cos it sounded awful at times but i dont no if thats just because they are a bit cheaper or something what is yours on coilovers or shocks and springs? and how low is it, is that next to a standard GTI.

I think the other car was lowered aswell (maybe 30mm),mine was on 40mm lowered springs and dampers. The ride was firm, but not harsh,i miss the ride quality sometimes.I sold the whole kit for £50

I have speed bumps here aswell, the trick is to stop and crawl over them in first gear,if it a really big bump,i go at a slight angle
