ok i,m trying to sort out a few changes i,m gonna make to the car.
there are gonna be some real dumbo questions here so forgive my ignorance.and let the flaming begin if need be! i,m the male car equivalent to the essex dumb blonde, except i,m 6-2" and 18stone bald head and look like a bouncer apparantly
if there are posts/threads that stop any repeating they would be great.
first is
1.the remap... research under way and i got a mate who will help with that too.
2. do i really need the milly/blueflame- what are the advantages aprt from the obvious sound and cosmetic look? is it too chav to just put on chrome at the ends?
3.coilovers-what do they do? is it just lowering or more than that?(told ya they were dumb)again how much and where? i want my car to look more aggressive in its stance rahter than out and out change in performance and the way she drives.
4.i love the red front splitter on the black car so where/ how much/ what to look for -differences?
5.luuurve the paddle extensions ive seen and heard there are ally ones which i quite like sound of esp as i wanna add few a few nice shiny bits to the interior(ther knobs switches etc) again where and what and how much?
5. toying with idea of the black badge but not sure yet- again where and how much?
6.alloys- i like my monzas as they are big part of the gti look and essence but thinking the monza 2's jsut somehow look the dogs again how much where why?
or do i go with the others i love the bbs or pesc's jsut somehow for me they lose that gti essence altho they look mad cool(waffling now!)
so.... any help response flaming generl piss taking at my ramblings, everything welcome.
i am chuffed to bits with my car but i know she can look just that bit more special and i would like to start budgeting so that perhaps each month or two i can add just a lil bit more so that if i ever dare to attend a meet you lot wont be too ashamed of me and my car lol :embarassed:
thanks for all your() help

1. software is the biggest "bang for your buck" modification there is in terms of power....but be careful don't make a point of trying to get software that's the most comprehensive on price, get software that's the most comprehensive on features, future upgrade paths and more importantly potential power
2.you don't need an exhaust.....it will help things but it all depends on how far you want to go with the car later on?
3.coilovers will help the hadling of the car, again all relevant it terms of what you want from the car??? if you just want it a little lower but only a little firmer just to sharpen things up a little i'd just do springs and shocks
4.no idea :)
5.no idea where to get one from but i'd just prep and paint the current one :)
6.again no idea on price :)
if you want to talk more about tuning options feel free to give me a call in the office on 01327 301 901
best of luck mate!
-
thanks for the input mate.
might just give you that call.

If you slim down to 13 stone the lighter load is the same as gaining about 4.5 bhp in the engine.
As the GTI was about £100 per bhp when new, that's like £450 in the bank.
I suspect this has as much chance as my runner in the National (Musica Bella).
-
:cool:lmao mr nosh!!
-
4.i love the red front splitter on the black car so where/ how much/ what to look for -differences?
i've not seen this
any pics for example?
do you require an upgraded dv with a remap?
-
1.the remap... research under way and i got a mate who will help with that too.
REVO, APR, Custom Code, GIAC and superchips are all pretty well known and I'll leave you to trawl the threads for info on these as there is just too many variables to squeeze an answer in here
2. do i really need the milly/blueflame- what are the advantages aprt from the obvious sound and cosmetic look? is it too chav to just put on chrome at the ends?
Don't do chrome ends...everyone will know  When combined with a remap and a decent intake, a full Turbo-back exhaust will give you better throttle response and quite a few extra bhp.
3.coilovers-what do they do? is it just lowering or more than that?(told ya they were dumb)again how much and where? i want my car to look more aggressive in its stance rahter than out and out change in performance and the way she drives.
Like Carl has said, if you are mainly out for a cosmetic look (and a little bit better handling) then go for something like Koni FSD's and H&R springs (one of the best combo's I've seen lookswise)
4.i love the red front splitter on the black car so where/ how much/ what to look for -differences?
Usually this look is achieve by painting the original lower splitter centre section and should cost less than £150 (less than that if you are handy with a sprayer). You could always have the centre splitter section wrapped in red vinyl as this would have an extra advantage of protecting any paintwork underneath it (cost under £100).
5.luuurve the paddle extensions ive seen and heard there are ally ones which i quite like sound of esp as i wanna add few a few nice shiny bits to the interior(ther knobs switches etc) again where and what and how much?
The paddle extensions can be bought through the TT shop and are made by TID styling. Remember though that the aluminium ones are cold to use in winter, wheras the CF ones remain warm to the touch. Prices have gone up recently and I doubt that you'll have much change from £200 now.
5. toying with idea of the black badge but not sure yet- again where and how much?
I don't know about the black badges, but the CF ones look lush and can be bought for under £150 for both the front and rears (if you supply the core badges). Again a group buy was organised recently and through the TT shop.
Be careful if you go for Monza II's as there are an awful lot of replica's out there for sale (and some are shockingly bad). The Monza II's used to be made by BBS, but I now understand are now made by Ronal. They should be 18" and 51 offset at 7.5" wide. Aftermarket ones are usually 18" and 45 offset, with an 8" width. BBS CH's are a lovely wheel to go with the GTI and in 19" look the business
Gratuitous pic post whoring.

No, you don't need an upgraded DV with a remap. Quite a few people who modify their cars do go for the Forge DV as it is more reliable/less likely to fail. The OEM DV on earlier GTI's was well known for it's shortcomings, but the newer G version is more robust and should suffice.
-
wow Matsu - some big plans!!
Thought you were as strapped for cash after buying the GTI as I am! lol
-
Apparently the DV is not an essential but looked at as an upgraded part (stronger).
On the remap side of things I have also been looking at REVO and GIAC with both of these you can get a switcher to change maps (not exactly sure which each come with) race, stock, kill, pump??
The exhaust will give you a little bit of extra BHP but not essential...you can get resonated and non resonated.
Just as I came in and looked back at the Golf I also thought it would look good with the lower lip painted red, just had bad experiences with local garages and peeling spoilers and bumpers.
If you do get an exhaust get it before you get the remap and then they can tailor the remap to suit.
-
thats all great stuff
thank you so much guys!
ifti-this is a long term plan mate so it will be bit by bit,but its this bloody forum. i love my car and i think she looks the nuts as she is and there is only 4 other gti's in my town but evertime i come on here i see something i like better or its diff to mine so i wanna know more and if i can do/afford etc..... prob best not to come on here really but ive never really been into cars other than admiring from afar(and my old mk 2 good few years back) but this new girl is different and she is a keeper!!
and now just walking away from her this morning i think the back needs some ggggrrrrrrr.
so what to do
so....first will be the remap i think. a mate had a company called angel?? anyone know them. he did a fabia estate(i think) and its frightening!
and i gotta mate who prob can respray the original splitter and if i want more oompf then i can upgrade to ed30 or diff splitter after
i really like the bbs and yours hurdy is fecking great but i,m worried it will lose its gti essence for me personally but then i,m not sure the original monzas are quite aggressive enough. but they will be the last bit of the puzzle methinks.
the exhaust i will do when i need to replace the original, unless i come into a few squid i,m not expecting.
and i,ll look into the carbon paddle extensions jsut as a lil pressi for myself hahahahahha
again fanx for all your help.
i really appreciate it all.

matsu... take it from me, modding is a slippery slope as Robin frequently says. I had never spent anything on modding cars - and I've been through about 25 Golfs - until I bought my Ed30. I had intended on getting a nice and sensible Stage 1 Revo for my 06 plate GTI since GTI International 2006, but never got round to it until November 2008 when JKM put Stage 1 Revo on my Ed30 and dyno'd it showing 278.4 bhp... I also had the Forge DV installed at the same time. I had stalled since 2006 as I was suspicious that the remap wouldn't really be all that and it would be a wate of money... after all, its just a software change and so I couldn't see why it cost so much - still think Stage 1 is too bl00dy expensive - but I thought its a one-off and 'only £499', wilfully choosing to ignore the fitting of the DV valve, VAT, the dyno etc.... The bill came to almost £800  I swallowed hard, paid up with a smile and went on my way. I pulled the car out onto the main road... didn't seem that much different - maybe a bit more eager but thats all... I decided to hold judgement until the engine was warmed up and I was on the motorway slip road... On the slip road I gave it some... OMG!!!! I was blown away... The car was now RAPID. There was NO WAY I was going back to standard.    I didn't realise it then, but it was only the beginning of my modding adventure.
I phoned JKM the next day and booked in some more mods including Stage 2. Over the next few days, I trawled this and other forums and kept adding 'little essentials' onto the list for the modding work to be carried out at JKM the next week    Anyway, my train of thought went something like this... I need the Hi-Flow Sports Cat to make the most of that Milltek Cat Back, and then you might as well take a look at the whole of the engine 'breathing' system to make sure there are no bottlenecks - otherwise, it would ruin the Miltek gains - so things like either Carbonio would have to be on the shopping list... or you could do it properly and get a real cold air intake like the EVOMS one... and after all that, you would have to get a remap to take full advantage of the bolt-on mods... Stage 2 is only £50 more so you might as well go the whole hog... and then you might need an aftermarket fuel pump then - what the hell... just chuck it in, you've come so far already. Then you'ill stand back and think.. hang on, what about the handling?! Of course, you'ill have to go out and get Koni FSD/Eiback Springs - or expensive coilies - and the white line anti lift kit - a snitch at around an affordable £130 and maybe some anti-roll bars to round it all off. Then you'ill look at your bank balance - hovering somewhere around 0 or some unmentionable negative number and truely understand the words of the wise elder Red Robin, who warned you that this is a slippery slope.    The bill totted up to circa £7000 with extra BBS wheels, mods etc... I then also had some custom painted BBS CHs put on and the car looked something like this...
It was truely a beast now running at a dyno'd 321bhp and since then, I have had a carbon fibre front grill, bonnet and badges put on as well as a VWR Quaife, VWR Race Spec Solid Aluminium engine mounts - Stage 2+ which I'm having issues with that at the moment though, but they'ill be resolved and 350/60bhp will be on tap
My Ed30 a month ago - bad pic quality as it was taken at night...

Tread carefully matsu
-
illy- if your intent was to scare the bejeezus out of me, well done ..... you succeeded ya git
i am now fully aware of how much this car means to me and i wanna make it lil ickle teenzy weeny bit beta. but you lot know that just dont happen and i,ll be skint forever.... but happy
so bring it on mwaaahaaaaa!!
but due to cash contraints it will have to be bit by bit but as i intend to keep this car a very long time it will be a cool journey to take.
long as you guys dont mind the next thread asking all sorts of dumb newbie questions i,ll be sticking around to learn!
fanx again mate.... i,m not sure you helped at all lol!
oh next question. if a mate can fit coilovers for me what and where do i get reasonable decent ones at not sillmoney? bear in mind they are more cosmetic than for real performance.
fanx matsu

Bit of a warning about cheaper coilles... if you're adament that you want to drop the car some and aren't bothered about the sh1t handling that will come with the package then thats ok. But I'd peronally advise a set of shocks and springs to drop the car and improve handling at the same time. Don't forget to get the geometry sorted after lowering the car
-
I thought you had the Quaife diff as well Illyun?
Chalk up another stash of money gone
Matsu, I'm sure I was partially to blame (along with Redrobin) as to Illyun's current bank balance. He is well and truly a paid up member of the serial modders fraternity
*now where's that website on R32 turbo upgrades *

Can't answer that one.....hold on just adjusting the dialasis setting
My dad was into cars and loved all of them. He had a soft spot for old classics. When he passed away, he left me money in his will and...I quote
"To my son I leave *****, who no doubt will spend it on modifying his car"
So, I am, and enjoying every moment of it.
In a way it is a bit of a tribute to remember him by, so no kidneys for sale here.........yet!
