yep me again.... i am seriously considering getting the new girl re mapped.
but as i know absolute;y nuffink about it and what to expect how much to pay the pros the cons....
is there a guide or a thread which explains it all to an numpty like me or can i start a dummys guide here and now.

Hey, i am pretty new to this forum too, but have sum good insight into maps, i have had 3 maps on my car lol.
1st BluFin - will increase ur bhp to around 255-260 bhp.
2nd Revo - will increase ur bhp to around 260-265ish.
3rd is custom codes - Crap lol
the difference between blufin and revo apart from the bhp is th torqu figure. i dnt know of th top of my head th exact amount but i do know the revo is closer to 300 than blue fin.
with blufin the power wen u drive the car wil be quite gradual and towards the top rev range it will kik in hard.
with revo the boost is immediate. u will feel the grunt instantly, and u have the torque to shift it too.
I have Revo in my gti mk5. and its a killer map.
My friend works in the tuner i had it mapped from ang i had him increase the boost figure for me.
If ur car engine has already been opend up (35-55000 miles) then u will benefit from revo.
I had my car dynod, and only with a stage1 revo my car gave out 278bhp.
Revo it mate, costs around £500 and its worth every penny.

What other mods have you done mate? Thats one of the most powerful non modded gti's on here if its just a map :undecided:

Just the remap, uprated air filter and carbonia intake pipe.
Just had full koni fsd's all round and eibach sport kit springs.
Uprated the brakes too - Tarox brake discs and ferodo pads.
And im waiting till it gets out the bodyshop then im booking it in for the stage 2 map and exhaust.
So do u still think its non modded.

Not at all mate. Was asking what you have done as it usually takes a few more mods and stage 2 to get near 250BHP on the GTI (non ED30)

Yeah thats kool, jus surprised, i think it really depends how the car has been driven before the map, every engine gives a different power up. i know my car has more power than the graphs u shown, because my friend has a 58 s3 n i can stay ahead of him creeping away. obv not from start i just wheelspin. i can catch him and pass him. mayb this is beacuse i have more torque, but that shouldnt conclude it. sum dynos can hav up to 20bhp error. but thanks for the info. will get it dynod n see!

this is with the boost set at 6, mine has been set at 7.
the gti in the dyno graph uve vshown looks like it is running ill. stage 1 should be much more than this with revo. and stage 2 should be closer to 280. confirmed by friend who really knows his sh!t.

There rollers are very accurate (as close as they can be minus variables) Every standard car they have run has hit manufacturers claims. I havent seen a mk5 GTI hit 280 with stage 2 yet, doesnt mean it hasnt i just haven't seen it :smiley:
Not saying you dont have that power, you could well have a strong engine. My Type R got 170lb/ft torque after a map which no other one achieved with just induction and exhaust, so i can believe every car is different.
RR are best used to see how well a mod has improved something before and after, as long as the car feels more powerful and is better to drive then it makes it worth it to me, the bhp figure is just to brag about to your mates :wink:

I have had a "stage 1" remap and I notice on a standard GTI with the smaller T03 turbo there is colossal amount of torque at low revs which I think can put considerable strain on clutch and gear box. looking at those charts charts the ED30s can generate as much torque but higher up the rev range. I think you will have to get used to driving more carefully with this in mind. I find that you have to feed in the power more slowly and only apply full throttle after 4000 rpm. (should you ever have to!)
I have to say that personally I don't think remapping the GTI without further mods* necessarily makes it a better car overall it is no more fun to drive, just faster and more manic.
*I did upgrade my DV to the D revision for piece of mind.

I'm sure you'll be OK from low revs as well, some remapped TDIs have 300+lb/ft at 1800-3000rpm and my Revo'd Ibiza Cupra TDI was, and still is, completely reliable after almost 5 years of abuse ;)
With regards to remaps, I've had (old) AmD and Revo maps in the past, Revo worked best with me as you can get a switch which allows you to turn off the map, adjust power settings, even put it in anti theft and valet modes. I've watched friends get cheap maps and get turbo and clutch problems, so I believe you get what you pay for. If they can safely tweak Porsches, they can tweak my GTI :)

Revo stage 1 here and mine made 230bhp on the rollers. Mine is standard apart from the map. From what I've seen 230ish seems to be the limit of stage 1 tuning on standard GTI's. To get close to 250bhp on a standard GTI you'll need to go for stage 2 and a turbo back exhaust.
Get yours dyno'd and you might be a bit disappointed to find out it's only making close to 230ish..
That said, I am very happy with Revo stage 1. It gives the car more than enough power and torque for me. Although I'll probably get a Milltek and Revo stage 2 when the car is out of warranty.
