I've had this problem for a few months now on my Mk3 Valver. Almost every time I give the car a good blast when I change at about 7k rpm there is a loud bang from the exhaust. When it first happened I thought it was something hitting the underside of the back box, but it happens every time. It does'nt have any effect on performance or reliability but is just odd :o.
Anyone got any ideas what it is, perphaps somethings on its way out??
p.s.
By the way the exhaust is completely standard and about a year or so old

De-Cat it and put a full stainless steel Magnex system on it... Dual Round 3"

Er you can't do that, cos you won't get an MOT :D
Sounds like an ignition problem, check your timing firstly, then check the condition of ignition system, ie. dizzy cap, leads.

Stick the Cat back on for MOT's ::)

Yeah fair enough, as long as ya don't get stopped by the old bill in between.
They are quite keen these days on doing road side checks....

I aint been stopped.. but I have a Cat... then again my mate with a De-Cat Golf and a rather loud Powerflow system aint been stopped either...

Its up to you, taking the cat off will certainly give good performance gains.
I wouldn't do it personally as there are far too many old bill round here ::)

Cheers - I think checking the timing and the ignition system are a wise move as they may reveal the cause of the problem rather than diguise it with a magnex exhaust. Although I am tempted by an aftermarket system and de-cat but I think I'll have the problem out first.
As for running without a cat I don't think that will be to much of a problem as I have'nt been pulled for about 10 years or so and even then they did'nt check emmissions......cue random spot check tonight!!!
While on the issue I think there is a decreasing liklihood of these checks with more speedcameras replacing patrol cars........there had my say :P
