ive just bought a 8v from my bro and it was doing the same for him and me on my first drive of it, found battery terminal loose and i cleaned out the throttle body around the butterfly area, hasnt cut out since

Most likely to be the fuel pump relay, do a quick search lots of info on here!
Worth cleaning the throttle body too...

Sounds like a plan!! Cheers guys!!

I bought my car last year and it had major running issues! I gave it a good service, plugs, leads, coil, cleaned out breather hoses which were terribly clogged up and cleaned oyut throtlle body! Drives like new

Hi had the same problem with mine turned out to be the crank shaft sensor, the wires from the sensor were cracked due to where they are run. Check this first b4 changing out relays. Hope this helps

i agree, with me it was my throttle body full up with grime you can pick up some carb cleaner for next to nothing.

Update:- compression all good
Cleaned out throttle body from where i could without removing it, still cutting out
ran all the tests i could with vag-com+ nothing showing up, even while it was cutting out
Cleaned batter terminles too+no change
Relay 30 gets pretty hot, have swaped it for another one the same with unknown history+ heats up+ cuts out still
Done the same with fuel pump relay but doesn't get hot?
So im still guessing relays........does the hot no30 sound bad??
Cheers for all the advice guys, will give the throttle body a proper clean nxt week after fiund a new gasket for it.
Then just got cambelt to renew
........and a load of other things!!
Oh well i love it really
