scotgc,

What engine did you go for and what extras did you get? I got the 320d with just plain old Metalic Paint, but I have the Sh1tty Import Tax here in Ireland. Can you believe this the Government wanted 10,000 euros VRT on the 56 (Jan) GTi and only 5,500 euro on my Oct 07 BMW. Also just to show you how Fecked Up this country is..... Road Tax on BMW in UK £120 here in Ireland 620 euro. Now if the BM was an 08 model it would only have been 150 euro. If I had bought an X3 with the same 2 litre diesel engine it would only be 490 euro. What a shower of "See You Next Tuesday's" they are over here!

You will come back mate, I am sure. I had two VW Golfs (one a GTi and the other a V6 4Motion) and then jumped to BMW ownership. I had a 325i Sport and then a 330d M Sport. They are nice cars don't get me wrong but there are things that VW do better! The thing I found owning a BMW is the attention it attracted and not always for the right reasons! Change of job meant I had to sell the BMW but going back to VW ownership has been like coming home!

The 325d looks nice though.... Should re-map nice too!!!

Give me an R32 anyday! The build quality of a BMW isn't all that its cracked up to be. I am not saying VW is perfect but then a VW doesn't cost as much either!!

I have more fun factor out of my Mk4's (all of them) than the BMW's every gave me

indublin ,

Its a 325 D M sport (3.0 litre) exact same engine as the 330D but just not as tuned, its got 197BHP and 400 N/M torques. I believe a remap can get it up to 270 hp or so.

I got steptronic transmission with flappy paddle's, sunroof, upgraded hifi, rear privacy glass, black leather and heated seats.

Its got a lot of gadgets which come standard with the car for example the subs under the seats, electric seats, cruise control etc.

Thats not good, tax for the 325D over here is £145 pounds a year which is a lot cheaper than i was paying on the GTI its also an insurance group cheaper so that helped my pocket

Are you quite happy with it so far? im stuck offshore and have only driven it on the test drive, the missus picked it up last week.

I will agree on the fun factor, but  not on the Build one! The build on my GTi was sh1t3! Rattle on the front speaker thingy, Rear Parcel Shelf, passenger door and those are just the ones I remember! The BMW is miles better........ but I'd have another VW in a heartbeat!

Lovely car! Runs rings around a GTI all day long, but obviously they are two very different cars. The 325d is a cracking engine, still feels hugely fast even though its de-tuned.

Enjoy her

....

I love BMW's - Cars of great character with great engines. They make the best diesels out there but I'd have a petrol one every time!

The Golf GTI is an entirely different kind of car, especially as a 5-door, and it's very much down to lifestyle and individual requirements. My last car was a 2-door BMW coupe straight-six and never let me down but no good for more than 1 passenger and it had a tiny boot.

How are you getting on with the BMW 325d?  I too have been looking at a 325d Msport auto. How does the gearbox compare with the DSG. I have yet to have a test drive in one as the dealers have been uable to get hold of an auto variant.

My BMW is the 320 M Sport Coupe with Man box. The Golf was also a Manual. But in answer to your question the BMW is a great Car. Not as rapid as the GTi but just as good to drive.

The wifes new motor is just that 325d MSport Touring, been driving it all week, as mines away for detailing,
1st, the build quality is above GTI, solid, no rattles, and superior materials, then its a lot more expensive full list, so you expect that.
2nd, The engines a peach, not as quick off the line, but close, but in gear acceleration is superior, and the auto box in sport takes away any need of cog swapping at 4.7K as you would in a manual diesel.
3rd, Fuel economy, driven quick is hovering around 42 local, and 48 on motorway, effective range of between 550 to 600 miles+ for 55litres
4th The auto box is seamless, but it is a full auto, imperceptable changes, flappy paddles give instant change, but its still a slush box, so eventually it makes decisions for you, but does not exhibit the quirkiness my DSG box displayed at certain times.
5th, The runflat tyres are a compromise, and the stiff sidewalls can be felt on broken surfaces particularly when cornering, not major, but I'm not fan, so they will be replaced by non run flats

A very easy car to drive quickly, good suspension control, very neutral steering, powerful brakes, superb build quality and materials and at 24K for 10months old and 3k miles, loaded spec, a bargin.

Lovely motor the 3-series coupe, I’ve been tempted myself... however the CLS320 Merc is more to my liking. Have fun...

Thanks for the reply. I have just been reading it the review again as I have got the change the car bee in the bonet thing going on again. I was coming back from the Isle of Man yesterday on the ferry  and just happen to see a nice 09 320d m sport saloon in grey with the 18s and is most of just been cleaned and looked really smart. As for the Isle of Man I totally recommend it for GTI owners because as soon as you see the national speed limit sign its foot down, as over there it means derestricted!  Great on the mountain section.

I am still enjoying the 320d M Sport Coupe... Thanks to these websites modd'ing is an addiction you can bareley avoid!
So far I have almost got my re-map sorted from a company called evolve (my ECU is a newer one and the software is still being processed). Upgraded Speakers & fitted Blaupunct Plug & Play Amp.

Anyone interested visit http://www.e90post.com/forums/index.php and have a wonder!

nice car mate if i had the money id like the 335i m sport test drove one 4 month ago would murder my edition 30. Are they the 19" wheels as they make a hugh differance.
