Title: fitting my front strut brace
Post by: andc1 on 31 March 2009, 17:47
hi all, got my strut brace today for the engine bay but i dont have any bolts around the top struts to bolt it onto!

is it a case of drilling holes for it to bolt on? it is for a mk4 golf and it fits in fine just no bolts the to fit it on to!

any ideas?

i'm fitting my S3 brace tomorrow,

is it best to only part tighten the top bolts whilst it's jacked up then fully
tighten when it's down?

remember to properly rust proof the holes or you'll soon discover a lot of rot around the top mounts

just get something like hammerite paint, a paint brush and the rest is simple

That'd be best in theory, but it is trickier to hold the bolts still when tightening up the nuts, with the car lowered back down. ;)

it's definately a fun 1, not too bad just tricky - think it would have been fairly easy but i went with some ny-locks on the top so that i don't ever have to worry about them going loose which made life a little more............interesting,

also my lower brace nicely sits above my lower cover  :smug:

that took a bit of work though.

has anyone got an S3 upper brace on a TDi? just wondering if anyone has already modified the top cover to fit before i start playing

hello i have recently purchased a s3 upper strut brace however it has brackets down the bar??? do i jus remove these? or does this mean that the brace didnt really come off a s3? also was just wondering if i tap and die the bolts that fit the strut would that matter?

looks like you need to remove them, as they were'nt on mine, also not sure on the golf if you need to grind some of the end bracket where the bonnet struts might foul on them. always a good thing to trial fit first.

yes, jus found out its a TT strut and wont fit on the passager side, so may have to get the grinder out! lol wouldn't of thought it would affect performance of bar as long as i stay clear of the bolt holes?

Found someone else do the same on the mkvi forums with no probs
