Title: cant get first or second gear

cant get first or second gear the car is a 1.8t gti this happen once the cutch pedal mountings snap fitted a new one. but cant get 1 or 2 any help on  the adjustment haynes manual refers to vw this is doing my nuts in.can any one help by the way it  a mk 4.
