open boot, look on panel that holds the VW badge onto the car. Code is on a label there.

I would double check, pretty difficult for them to just go missing. They are not the most obvious things in the world.

Your paint code is very rarely in any manual that comes with any car. Short of that, VW "should" be able to go off your numberplate.

What year is it? it looks quite modified, so if its a genuine small bumper, it couls have had a re-spray as I'm pretty sure mettalic black came after small bumpers

Its a 90 on a G reg, the 'person' who had it b4 me decided to put the CL bumpers on and remove half of the GTI trim, i dont know why he said it was because he didnt like the GTI trim on them, it has got alot done to it though, Porche electric seats, lowered on adjustables 60mm all round etc, poly bushes all round, short block Audi bottom end, etc etc im just confused on colour now though :D

Long shot but try your local car paint suppliers and see if they can match it, they have paint chips so should be able to.

Most VW dealerships hid the "build sheet" within the vehicle! with a bit of luck, yours is still there! fold the rear seats forward, as if your going to carry something large in the boot, this will expose the end of the floor carpet, that disappears under the  rear seat base,
slide your hand under the carpet, and have a feel around for folded paper, like your looking for hidden money!! if your carpets have never been out, then there's a good chance its still there, the build sheet gives a full spec of the vehicle that was used in the factory, only in a code form, but luckily includes the paint code... I have actually seen build sheets taped to the floor, under the rear seats..

if its a g reg then when the sidetrims were taken off (looks like they have to me?) , then holes would have been left in the doors and rear 1/4's. these would have had to be filled and sprayed and hence points towards a bit of respray action.

looks really good though! i do like a bit of chrome trim small bumpers

I like it it some respects but really want all the original trim back on, unfortunatly although the previous owner was good with the mech side of it, the styling not so much, the holes for all the trim are still there just covered with a long strip of PVC electricians tape, tasteful....no? lol :D

Well i phoned the VW Dealers and they told me that the Code is 041 and the name is Black, how plain, however upon phoning a paint specialist there is only codes of L041 or 9041 but neither has metalics in them and one has claret (red) in, so im still none the wiser but they have said to brin it down and they have chips for VW's so who knows :)
