I noticed Sat night that my drivers side rear bulb is barely lit up at night  Is it simply a case of changing the bulb or is there something more sinister, ie, bad earth, etc..?
-
It is normally the bulb, when you take it out it will be silvered in all probability.
Quite a common MK4 fault with one tail light brighter than the other.

"silvered"..??? What do you mean? What causes it?

They sort of corrode from the inside. For the sake of a few £ I would replace both sides. Make sure you fit 10w and not 5w bulbs!!

yep there are 2 clips on the back of the cluster - push them in and pull the cluster out

Just change the bulb and if that doesn't solve it then ask the next question.
