Title: RNS510 & Bluetooth Questions......
Post by: ifti on 28 March 2009, 12:08
Yup, its me again! lol ;)

If I pick up the ED30 Ive seen this week I'd want to get a sat nav unit fit over the next few months, as one of my first upgrades....
The car has a MFSW and Highline. It also currently has a Parrot Bluetooth system fit on the right side of the steering wheel, by the door. It looks like it has been professionally done.

Nevertheless, I would prefer to use the MFSW and Highline when it comes to the Bluetooth handsfree - as long as it doesnt cost more then a few hundred that is!

I understand there is a 'Fiscon' unit, where you can view your phonebook etc on the highline, and make and receive calls via the buttons on the MFSW - which is exactly what I'd like. Does the OEM VW Bluetooth unit do the same?

Im also considering a Kenwood DNX 7200 (Like Hurdy has) or a RNS510 - would the Fiscon/Bluetooth unit be fully compatible with these systems?

Finally, when it comes to the sat nav units above - do they have full postcode search? I hear the RNS510 doesnt?
Does anyone have any pics of the sat nav views? Im used to using a TomTom unit, and would like the same kind of navigation view, rather then a top down view etc.
Im also assuming that once installed, directions are displayed on the Highline as well?? Does the Kenwood system do this also?

Im based in Essex - if I buy the units above, is there anyone near me who can fit them privately? ie. Remove the parrot system, and install the sat nav and Bluetooth systems and get it all up and running properly etc?
Not sure how much the Parrot system is worth, but I may consider giving it to the installer as payment if interested, along with a drink or two ;)

This is the reason why I'm going for the Pioneer F700/900.... Got Bluetooth/mic/satnav etc....

Looks quite OEM too :)
Can help with the questions as I'm pretty much disregarded the RNS510.

Does it still do the bluetooth stuff I mentioned, in the highline?

No, but IIRC you press the on/off button and voice dial

The contacts are all stored in the stereo, and also link into the satnav.

Nice

The OEM (Skoda) Bluetooth kit displays the phonebook, missed calls, dialled numbers, etc in the highline and is all operated via the MFSW or RNS510.  The phone button is not used on the steering wheel it's all done via the up/down arrows and the OK button.  The star button can be used for voice dialling if coded.

The RNS510 doesn't have full postcode search.  The directions/compass are displayed in the highline display.

They are both pretty easy to fit as I did them myself.  The RNS510 didn't need any coding but the Bluetooth kit did which I got done for free when some warranty work was being carried out.

HTH.

I have a parrott kit in the A4 and its fitted with another bit of kit that has livened up the phone options in the mfsw ie: voice dialing, last number dialing, call end & volume during the call.

Not sure if it does the same on the olf.

The Kenwood DNX7200 is a good unit (I should know), but if you want the newest version then there is the Kenwood DNX8220BT.

It comes with bluetooth compatibility built in, is easy to use (Uses the Garmin software) and you can use full postcodes to search for locations. It has loads of extra features too and here is a link to its full specification.

I had one of these in my Ed30 for about 5 days before I removed it and sent it back!  Perhpas they've fixed the software in the last 6 months - but it was absolutely DREADFUL!  The unit took over a minute to boot every time you started the car (about 80 seconds!), and every time you pressed a button you got an annoying BEEP noise that you CAN'T turn off!  There were heaps of annoying things - mainly in the software - so perhaps they might have been ironed out now.
Definately try before you buy!!!
