Here's the scenario -
You own my cab, and want to make a few changes, to the look or the engine. What would you do?
The reason I am asking is I am happiest when I am tinkering with it, but other than a major engine transplant, I can't think of anything else to do. So. I thought I would turn to you Rag Runners and see what ideas you can come up with.
-
can we have ur spec list 8)
the way i see it adam is that your car is a finished project. you have done more to that car than anyone else on the site has done to theirs afaik. if you like tinkering i think a new project might be in order to be honest. the sportline (i dont know her first name) is looking absolutely brilliant, surely changing anything now would be going backwards. Like u said, maybe an engine conversion and that retrim, but u will never beat perfection :-*
i think a caddy sport might suit you ;D
-
I did think about another project, but I like to be able to drive my cars, and if I had too many I fear some may not get any use.
BTW her name is J-Low
-
yeah, i think you are getting dangerously close to 'project finished'. it's a disease that affects a lot of veedub modifiers and why you end up seeing wicked cars up for sale.
get yourself a beaten up old gti for peanuts and start another project :)
or a 20v engine in the cab
or a retrim
or a synchro install
:P
-
ooh - a 4WD cab - like it's ever gonna go off-roading, lol.
Nice idea though, loads of grip at the moment, but you can never have too much.
-
oh oh oh i have an idea!!! hydrolic/air suspension mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm 8)

oh yes, that's it in one! a new toy for the car, nice shiny polished air tank, looks mental and solves your problem with struggling to drive over dropped rizla packets!
sorted.
-
i reached this stage with my last car (vauxhall corsa ) it was either do an engine conversion or sell it and start a new project. i sold it but cant help but wish that i had completely finished it with the engine conversion. save the money that you would spend on changin the engine for a 1.8 turbo. i feel that you would be most satisfied then.
-
Do mine up for me??
Wish I was at project finished - not even project started yet :'(
Got no money oh well guess we'll just pick our zorst off the ground and limp home
-
Adam, get those Recaros re-trimmed in leather like the sportline in Golf + the other month, looked quality. :)
-
Yeah, hydrolic air suspension and some chrome things ;D
Or more smoothing on the body work ???
-
Although i havent seen your car in real life,so i dunno how smooth it is!!!
Or put every single switch possible as a toggle switch, could look kinda cool
-

Think we can say the bodywork needs no attention!! His car is a proper head turner
I wud be inclinded to keep the engine as yeah u done her up but she looks cool and origonal if I make sense. Done a good job there boy!!
-
id get the wheels as chrome as physically possible by a polishing company.
and obviously the engine transplant....

You might not need it for off roading but it will be great down the strip!

see if you can obtain an VW rabbit cab dash the lower section sticks out, a lot more beefier and houses your power switches in that little tray under the ashtray, they also had the fancy air con keep cool with the rag up too. retrim in leather, some german style pressed metal number plates look nice. they even had a nice porsche style leather wheel on the last ones, americans get all the fancy gear, although they are cursed with them shocking large indicators and side lights.
Get your electric windows switches to operate the back windows when you fully crank down the front without using additional switches, theres a challenge.
all else fails stick a "i brake for no one sticker in the back window"
mod something too much surely it stops being the quirky car you set your heart on in the first place.
sometimes you turn heads for it being what it is and perhaps not how big the roof spoiler or furry dice are. you look at a GTI badge any design and its instantly pictured with a golf, look at an SR badge and your probably scratching your heads going aint that short for sunroof?
just a thought
your motor looks sorted maybe its time for a new project or time to enjoy your creation
-
Adam, you should go for the Audi TT engine, dashboard & loom into your golf... and then chip the engine to 300BHP... :)
-
NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO
keep her origonal please ad
-
how about creating the first true hard soft top for a Mk1 Golf cab, like you see on the new Merc's - you could make a mint out of that design and sell it to VW....!!
-
Loads of great ideas here, Guys. Thanks. Looks like I may have to buy a couple of cabs to do them all though.
Getting the back windows to lower, with the fronts would look good, or having the wheels blinged up with chrome.
Ithink it will be de-handled and some TVR style door releas switches incorporated into the mirrors. - anyone any thoughts on that?
-
Hmmmmmm, i'll break into my mates garage and dismantle his dads tvr and sell the mech for ya ;)
At a premium of course
-
Always wanted aTVR, but it would mean having to sell the Golf, and I really dont want to. I cant justify having 2 "Toys" to run. Suppose I could wait for TVR Golf to finish his project and offer him a few quid
-
i love em, true british car! But i'd keep the golf for summer, and a tvr for winter ;D ;D
Good excuse for two toys! Just rear wheel drive and ice, could be fun
-
Three words:
White leather interior
Would looking f**king sweet with the colour of your car ;D

russian owned now!!
i think that just leaves morgan and possibly panther
-
Don't Harrods own Panther? if so, is it really British as Al Fayed cant get a passport?
-
ha i like that! ;D
-
i did say possibly panther ;)
is bristol still going?
-
I think you can still get Bristols, but would they use Rolls Royce engines? BMW?....
aaaaaargh - we used to be world leaders with amazing engineers and car manufacturers, now the only thing we build has a wooden chassis!!!
