Apolpogies for another post,
but i only got 1 set of keys for the car, i didnt get the other plastic bit either?
What re my options? Ring the Stealers and get raped?
Get another key reprogrammed?
(did try search but nothing came up)
-
How many keys should be with the car in the first place??
Isnt it 2 remote keys, and one plastic key?
-
Should have two remotes and a plastic key. If you bought it from a dealer they should of given you the set, if you bought it privately or from a non VW dealer then you could ask them to stump up the cash for one but it's unlikely
-
So all cars should have 2 remotes an dthe plastic key. If you buy private, the seller should have all 3 anyways shouldnt he???
Do imports still come with the same?

When you say one set - do you mean 1 remote key, and thats it??
-

Is this a secondhand car in which case the former owner didn't hand over everything.

+1.
The plastic key is like a little version of the key which you slip into a suit pocket without keys weighing you down. It's also something you can give to the valet to use rather than handing over your set of keys.

afaik it's really a plastic tag that has coded details about the two key fobs.
-
You should have got 2 keys with the car. If you got it from a dealer, go back to them. If you bought privately, go back to the seller. If you only have 1 key, it means someone still has a coded key which could be used to access and drive your car at any time in the future
At the very least, you should have the system recoded to reduce this risk.

Exactly what I wa sthinking cass. Someone could just come with the spare key and take the car right away!!
I would strongly advise recoding the system if you havent got both keys.........then again, would it be a good idea to recode anyway?? I mean, if you purchase from a private seller, if would be much safer to recode the keys since you dont know how if any others were made and coded before you took the vehicle!!
Maybe thats taking it a little too far - but you never know in todays world!
How much are you looking at to get the keys recoded, and what does the process involve?
-
50 quid for recoding, 160 for a new key...
-
cheers dudes,
any cheaper for new key £160!?!?!?!?

Get one off fleabay, get a blank key laser cut and then pay the dealer to recode it - should be less than £50 all in!
-
where can i get it LAser cut? Mr minit?
-
I tried an ebay key, got it cut..but the dealers couldnt code it and gave up after half a day trying different software to do it.... this was around a year ago though so the keys may be different now
-
ive heard you cant get it cut unless you have the plastic bit?
I may just shellout £160

My audi dealer ordered me a new key only and I fitted it to my ebay fob - I had to show them the V5 doc and prrof of address though.
BTW, Audi 'only' charged me £25 to recode the key - you can do it with vag-com, but I didn't bother DIY at this price.
-
I was offered some kind of key thingy protection on my insurance for an extra £3 per month (which i didnt bother with) but might be cheaperto add that to your premium and then tell them you lost the key and they will provide you with another
Wouldnt think it would add more than £160 to your insurance... i would hope not anyway
-
Tahks for the help Peeps, but prev owner has found the key!!!
I should be so lucky with my rubber ducky
-

Yeah does anyone have this? Somebody earlier mentioned it was actually just a plastic tag with the code details. Can anyone confirm 100% which it is?
