Title: Decat's...
Post by: twistedblack69 on 25 March 2009, 22:17
Anyone here got one?? Am thinking of doing it, mainly because I can haha...just wondering if there's any pro's or con's to it at all?? What are you're personal preferences on them?? Does it do anything to power?? I really don't know anything about them except I couldn't do it on my old car, but I can on my Golf haha

Are you sure your golf even has one, it was a very expensive option that took away a fair bit of power so it wasnt a popular option

as above. back in the late 80s/early 90s people gave two sh!ts about the enviroment and rarely ticked the yes on the option list. Few mk2s have cats.

iirc your car put out 101hp at the RR didnt it? If i were you, id try and get back to standard 112hp. A full service and a tune up of the engine is a must mate, it will reset the car back to 112hp and it will totally transform it. before you start modding, make sure you've got a good base. no point in trying add mods to get standard figures, mods are for figures above standard

oh and a decat pipe will give about 4 or 5 hp, and the car will hold it's power for longer, so you wont run out of puff at 5000rpm.

I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be a power gain or a power loss, just heard about them, hence me saying I don't know much about them. So you can't get a decat pipe for a mk2??

Benrevs...yea that's what I meant by I couldn't on my old car, it being a '95 Fiesta, my Golf is a '91 H reg, and yea, anything post-J reg it's mandatory to have a cat to get through it's MOT, and possisbly other legal reasons, I'm not sure

Anything older than '93 and you can get rid of it :) I'm currently arranging to have my 1.6 Jetta de-cat'd.

I've talked to a few parts places locally and none of them have the section to replace it with.. They said it isn't made anymore! It's going to have to be a garage job and get the Cat cut out and replaced with a bit of pipe.

If your car does have a cat the best way to get the most from it is to ditch the cat and also fit a pb engine code engine ecu

the PB code ecu wont work you need the PF code one

keep the lambda probe though

i know i tried it when mine went pop

i should have had a cat but it was removed long ago

think it is just a new front part of the exhaust you need
