Title: K03 turbo bhp
Post by: PaddyWagon on 25 March 2009, 16:08
Just wondering what bhp people are squeezing out out their K03's? What seems to be the max potential?

About the same with me.  Had 260 last RR day, and since fitted a Dbalis intake and APR HPFP with software to suit.

I suspect that unless you are now using stage 2 software to compliment your tbe, your bhp expectations may fall a little short.

depends on which rollers you use and to what result your pull. 250 on some rollers, others will show towarss 270. Lottery tbh.
You shouldnt chase big figures tbh. Driveability is the key

On a RR i use in Ireland that gives consistant figures as JKM rollers with just a remapp (aggressive one) i reached 236bhp. I then added an EVOM's intake, a full Miltek TBE, autotech fuel pump and Forge twintercooler and got the map tweaked so my average power on the same rollers is now 285bhp. The ko3 ain't a bad turbo.

This is JBS dyno of their k03 car with Custom-Code Pump Specific Software (C-C PSS)

....That much difference! Methinks I should attend a Regal dyno session one day and see the difference on mine too.

The other thing to remember is that flywheel calculated figures are generally a load of tosh. Not all dynos will use the mechanical drag to work out the transmission losses and just apply a figure or percentage. If you're always going to be on the same rollers throughout your modding that's fine, otherwise the measured wheel horsepower is the figure you should pay more attention to.

Good advice, topher :afro:

Personally I prefer to use the same dyno (JKM as they are my tuner with loads of historical logs etc) and view it all as relative.

....Chasing the max without headroom is not really the brightest move to make!

ah that infamous CC PSS'd Leon FR that made over 300bhp.

having looked at the graph again, its interesting where peak torque is....all the way up at 5k rpm! on a K03S!!!!

This turbo is supposed to be about low down torque, and being able to maintain it up to 5k rpm. It then runs out of puff quite quick after that.

the uprated HPFP is supposed to help keep the torque up in the mid range, hence make a bit more power up the top end.

My Revo S1 graph shows peak torque of 300lb/ft at 3k rpm (same as Robins).

The CC Leon has 230lb/ft at 3k rpm, and 295lb/ft at 5k rpm.

So you basically have to rev the nuts off that Leon then!

which for longevity purposes and turbo/engine preservation, its not what you want in a small ish turbo'd car.

I've also not heard of anyone going for this CC PSS remap and achieved this magic 300bhp!

I'm glad to say that whether Revo Stage1 or Stage2, the torque on a DSG car is kept sensible for the sake of longevity and driveability.

Well apparently the americans have no problems achieving 300bhp +

....Not so far. I'm not suggesting that problems are guaranteed but only that the less the 'headroom tolerance', the greater the risk.

The acid test is would you buy a highly modded car from one of those young American dudes?
