Title: Satisfaction at beating the local stealer!
Post by: starlingadey on 23 March 2009, 16:48
Went to my local VW dealer, shall we say, somewhere in Norfolk. They said they'd found me the ED30 I was after.Quoted me 18,290 for it and a four year finance deal.Their valuation on my car was also 700 less than another dealer was prepared to pay. I found the exact ED30 online(just matched the number plates!) for 16,750 and the same monthly payments but over 3 not 4 years! Had to travel to get the car but they taxed it for a year and filled it with fuel for me and did it for 16,500.Reckoned the exact same car bought locally would've cost me about 6 grand more!!! God bless the internet I say.

well done mate, shows how much margin some dealers will try and make on something they dont really have to touch!

How do you find out if a car has had warranty claims on it??

(sorry to slightly go off topic!!)

Would be interested to know this too (although the obvious answer would be to ask the dealer or service department)

I also had the same issue with my Audi - a relatively local stealer ;) tried to sell me the car I've currently got! Luckily I'd done my homework. The dealer only wanted another £4K!!!! LOL!!!!

Needless to say, I told them that I didn't appreciate the stunt they were trying to pull, even taking into consideration their requirement to make a profit.

Good result mate - it's definately a buyers market out there and you need to do your homework to find the right car at the right price. That said, the downside is that when you've got one, you are the recipient of the depreciation

Must be a norfolk thing...........I enquired when I was looking to the local stealers & they might have just raped me with the offer they came to me with a car. Bar Stewards....

Well done mate. :smug:

i called my local dealer, and they checked the reg, told me it didnt have its 1st service on their data base, had claims for paint peal on the front + claims for poor leather quality on the front seats. So i avoided.

I love stories like this well done matey.

Hate Stealers, they're just too greedy. Don't mind them making a profit but to expect a large one on trade in and sale is disgusting and their profit mongering will keep me away from them for some time to come.
