Title: leaking rad

hi, noticed my (1.6 mk4 S reg - has AC ) was loosing water then found a leak from the left side of the radiator (looking front on) was wondering how hard it would be to do this job myself, or it would be worth putting it in garage to save the hastle... any other options apart from rad weld as i would prefer to get a new one other than risking temp problems etc... thanks for any help  :smiley:

anyone ? could do with a bit of advice as i dont know whether or not to buy one, cant seem to find any guides in the help section ?

It;s do-able with 2 people. I did mine on my old TDI, take frnt bumper and all the crash bars off, drain the coolant using the tap on the passenger side of radiator, then remove and refit. Ok, it'd not as easy as that but should only take 2-3 hours.

Got a full rad pack complete with fans and air con condenser for sale if your looking for the whole lot

well im only looking for the radiator to be honest, and i still dont know whether just book it in garage get it done....

Jus a thougt, it's not leaking from the Fan thermo switch in the rad is it?

Its on the Passenger side of the rad on My Golf, not sure where it will be on yours?

no, i popped me head under and it looks to be drivers side bottom corner as it looks corroded and there was coolant (water) there... cheers for help  :smiley:

i had the same problem on my saxo vtr, im sorry people i know its a disgraceful chavvy monster but i sold it  :grin:

anyway... i bought some radiator cement for like £7, put it through the coolent system and let the car run for a good hour so the cement
gets hot, it solved the problem brilliantly, and this whole was like the size of a 50 pence piece so it wasnt a small whole really!

i would defo try that first, takes 2 mins to do and will save you alot of money if it works, you can get it from most car places

yeah thaught about that, but worried if it would have an effect on the thermostat, heater or aircon  :huh:
if i did use rad weld could i just flush it back out again if it had a bad effect? its only a small leak...

ok thanks, got quoted roughly £100 for new radiator.. nothing lost if i have to replace it later.. thanks  :smiley:
