Title: MkII Front Struts
Post by: Dean on 03 July 2003, 01:08
Are the front struts on a MKII golf the same for all models, or are the GTi struts a different type?

I am after 2 new front struts, but my springs and shockers are OK, it is the assembly and top mount that is knackered.

Regards.

Dean.

I'm having the front struts replaced on my 16v tomorrow.  The 16v ones are definately different to 8v ones and I think none GTI ones are different again.  I read that originally the 16v and G60 came with gas struts on the back and oil on the front unlike all other MkIIs that had oil filled ones alround.

I'm sure the fronts are oil as we've just replaced one that was leaking.

I would be very interested to know the part number you get, we had 191413031 (I think).

Justin

Did you replace the whole strut or did you just have inserts fitted?

You cant buy the inserts any more apparently. Well, not from VW anyway.
