Post by: matsu on 21 March 2009, 11:15
hey guys.
the car was bought with 33500miles. second service due at 36k and obv dsg due at 40k.
i have a local guy who i trust and will use vw parts to keep it all kosher or is it better that i stick to a dealer to do the services.. bearing in mind i plan on keeping this car mucho long time!

As long as its someone who you know will do a proper job!
You may save a bit of extra cash rather then get ripped off by the dealer!!
Then again, its down to whether you want a full dealer service history with the car.....
I would compare prices, although I never really trust dealers with any car when servicing. You never know what they do with it!
As I said, compare prices, then decide. Does your local guy know a lot about the GTI and what to expect or do?? You dont want to end up taking it to a dealer to fixing more due to mechanic error!

I always tend to stick to the dealers, and it appears with my recent problems to have paid off, as they are offering money off the repair as a goodwill gesture as I've always gone to the dealer. Never sure how much a dealer service history counts for at trade-in.
