now the TT is sold, really wanted a R32, but due to finances not really permitting, trying to see if there are any nice 5dr gti with dsg and leather etc. to try and tempt me.

Have to be 5 doors?
-
ideally, yes.
unless the 3dr was going cheaper

£12,500 with either set of wheels...
I should be going to Audi on Monday to see about an A4 2.0T , So I'll know more tomorrow as to whether a sale is on or not.
I'll PM you Mon/Tue with my home/mobile number.

very interesting. something like this might tempt me ;-)
i see you mentioned about a4 2.0T. that's something else on my list. after being in a a3, i wasn't that impressed with comfort in the rear, although been in a gti mk5 in the rear and found it better for some reason.
do you know how the a4 2.0T goes compares to the gti, in mpg, performance etc. etc.?

do you know how the a4 2.0T goes compares to the gti, in mpg, performance etc. etc.?
Yes, slightly slower (A4 0-60 7.1, Golf GTI 2.0T 0-60 7.0), uses about the same fuel (both 36.7 on combined cycle) - so in terms of bare performance and fuel consumption figures nothing it in...
Having driven both, the Golf IMO, handles better but that's just that, an opinion...

These were taken from the official brochures...
A manual Golf GTI is MUCH slower and not so good with the fuel as well...
0-62 in 7.2sec's, 146MPH top speed and 25/44/34MPG
Hope this clears things up...

still not tried a mk5 gti with dsg, but went out in a r32 with dsg and it was a blast. think there isn't much point trying the gti lol
but the search goes on

Does that mean the search for a GTI is off then...

definately not. really need to try one to judge. but i was impressed with dsg on the v6 and the drive and space of the mk5 in general. the r32's are a bit over budget to be honest, so if a good gti came round at a good price i'll be ready to buy having sold my car.
but i've noted the extra costs the gti is going to cost, like cambelt, waterpump (due to my budget will be looking at earlier examples like 2005/06), the need for a remap (and possibly exhaust) to make it the way i like without being OTT

OK, they're the "official" figures, I sourced the ones I gave from a magazine.
Still,I suppose that this will depend on your definition of "much" but 6.9 v 7.2 is not much (~4%) in my book and would almost certainly be indescernable on the road...
