I picked up my first GTI today and am very happy with it so far. I had thought the spec included folding mirrors but can't see a button to fold them. There's a joystick for adjusting them and heating them, but how do you fold them?
Also, I've not got a manual, do dealers not include them on used cars generally? Anywhere I can get one, downloadable preferably.

There should be a switch i believe. I dont have them, not too fussed either. I did want them originally but after seeing they fold in about 5cm i wasnt bothered

what do you mean here? do they include folding mirrors on manuals normally?!?
joystick with heated mirrors is the winterpack option
-
Think I have this joystick, but no folding mirrors!
I have the form when the car was first ordered, Says I have Convenience pack!.....????? (Never heard of that.)
-
If you have folding mirrors you should see a folded mirror icon at the 10 o'clock position on the mirror rotary switch.
If present, turn the switch to that 10 o'clock position and the mirrors should fold in.

He didn't get an owners' manual with the car. Go and ask your dealer for one. Have you seen the service history? The stamps are in a book in the owners manual and is kept in a shelf in the glovebox.
The GTI has folding mirrors but they may be automatic/electronic or manual (ie you fold them in yourself!).
All GTIs come with heated wing mirrors regardless of spec. The things the winter pack adds are heated washer jets and a low washer fluid warning (both useless), heated seats and headlamp washers.
Congrats on your purchase and we look forward to photos of your car.

Ahh drat, thought I had discussed the car having that option with the dealer when I first viewed it. It must have just listed them as folding mirrors (as in manual) rather than electrically folding.
Still it's not a big problem and I got a tracker installed that I didn't know I was getting lol.
Guess I'll just need to move to a house with a bigger garage so I don't need to fold them. :D
Is the shelf holding the manual in the glovebox hidden or should I have been able to see it on opening the glovebox? I just had a quick look in the dark and the glovebox looked empty.
P.S. Thanks for all the replies!

If the manual is there you should easily see it at the top of the open glove box.

I wouldnt be too worried. The 'folding' mirrors are a joke on the MK5. They are only tuck in about 4cms, if even that.
-
I got told I had electric folding mirrors and rear kerb activated mirror drop when I was buying it by the dealer! Have I fcuk!
anyone know whta the convenience pack is???? :undecided: :undecided:

When I first viewed the GTI that I bought, I was certain that the manual was missing, because I didn't notice it sitting on its little shelf at the top of the glove compartment. You might have missed it if you just had a quick look in the dark. If it really is missing, you can sometimes buy these owner manual packs on ebay. I was never able to find any downloadable/pdf versions.

The folding mirrors are part of the Lux Pack.
The convenience pack is somet else I believe.
-
Yup I did have the manual in the shelf at the top. Because it is black and at the top I didn't spot it the first time. :)

I found my folding mirrors by accident. The joy stick can be rotated. At 6 o clock, the mirrors are isolated, at 4 o clock, both mirrors are adjsuted, at 8 o clock only the passenger side is adjusted, at 12 o clock, the mirrors are folded. (This is on a 05 reg model)
The convenience pack seems to include some "puddle" lights in the door mirrors.
-
''Puddle'' lights in the door mirrors?

''Puddle'' lights in the door mirrors?
When you open the door, a little light on the underside of the door mirror comes on and illuminates the ground so you can see oif there are any puddles.
