Title: Thumping from front end.
Post by: Agentsmith1uk on 18 March 2009, 07:44
hi 1 and all, my mk 4 Golf has a weird knocking which seemed to come from the shockers, it isnt a constant knock but only when i go over something bumpy, ive taken my car to see a friend (he works for ATS) and he is certain that its not the shockers. My other thought was that it might of been an engine mount. Is there to anyones knowledge a problem like this or similar to this for mk 4 Golfs.
many thanks in advance

Wishbone bushes and front drop links. Was on mine and sound a lot like your describing.

yeh i agree with Dobber

Change your Front Wish Bone rear bush for Audi TT bushes (Solid Rubber). You will notice its abit more harsh but these are alot stronger than standard bushes.

tyvm both for ur advice, I looked under car today whilst doing a service and the rubber within both wishbones does look perished.
Hulmie when u say "Change your Front Wish Bone rear bush for Audi TT bushes (Solid Rubber). " i assume ur refering to the 2 bushes on each wishbone ?
Also, has anyone got a price i should be looking at to pay for each Wishbone bushes Mk4 Golf and also Audi TT.
Again many thanks in advance

My car has done 83000 miles on the same bushes so you have to ask yourself, should you really spend extra money on bushes that you quite possibly wont ever change again?

Yeah good call. I'm not racing or rallying my motor, i just want it to be right.
Funnily enough the knocking started when i allowed my brother to drive my car to the rally in Cardiff. he's to blame =p
Gonna check the tinternet for some prices and wait for a friend to return off his hols before fitting.
Ty again

i'll get you the dealer price for the bushes when i get home. Be warned if you use the standard bushes and lower the car then they will be stressed, hence upgrading to the TT bushes. The bushes i refer to are the rear bushes in each wishbone. i doubt that your front bushes will have split but if so replace with standard front bushes.

No plans to lower the car, ideally want to keep it as standard as possible.
So the standard bushes should be fine.
Many thx
p.s ty for getting me a price.
