Hey,
As the title says really! im a complete newbie to the world of mk1s!! Im usually on the mk4 forums!
Will post pictures up as soon as i get the car home!
Anyone got any useful advice, tips etc about becoming an owner of one!? lol bit of a wierd question i know!!
Oh and just a quick warning.. you will get question after question after question from me about them !
anyway-
hello everyone! Names Scott and i will be kicking around here quite a lot from now on!

First Question:
What size are the wheels? lol :nerd:
-
If they are standard then most likely 14's. But various models came with 13,14, or 15
I have a set of Rota RB's on mine, they are Size: 15x8.0, Offset ET30 which gives a nice wide look with a tiny bit of poke (passed its MOT). Steering feel actually improved and they are still confortable to drive, 16's can get a bit crashy.
-
Great, thanks for the reply!
Well shes now on the drive!
Not sure what the wheels are though dont know if they are standard or what lol will try get a picture for you!

Welcome to the mk1 fold

oh and useful tips - check the hood before we get loads of bad weather, make sure there is no debris stuck under your ?scuttle tray (the plastic tray in at the top of the engine), or in the rubber gromit..its amazing how many people get overflow of water into the car because of them esp. when parked an at angle with the bonnet facing upwards, erm regularly service, keep some money aside "just incase" and im assuming you have check all the common rust locations and maybes just give yourself that little bit extra time when braking, just to get used to them

Thanks for the tips! I will have to make a point about checking the debris cant wait to give ita really good valet and probably wax it up too! im going to keep it kept in storage over the nastier months as i dont really fancy it being left out all year.
Id like to get myself the single headlight grille at some point..do you have any pictures of your cab and have you done much to it or are you keeping it completely standard?

you always find something to do!
Although I think slight modifications are better than full on wackyness...think you still need to keep it slightly standard or add stuff within the same era kind of thing...
but everyone has different ideas - would be boring if we didn't!
What are your plans?

Subtleness is my plan! just the odd mod here and there wheels, stance, maybe a couple of asthetic things..nothing too OTT and things you can put back to standard.
and wow.. just looking at some of the pictures of your cab! i love it, im really really like the zender rims!!
oh and another quick question.. the single headlight grille.. how does it work then? u just have to sacrafice not having main beam i take it?!
Thanks for the replies once again! im going to carry on have a look through your thread!

on a single light grill u still hav the main beem an side lights also high beam i belive
u just have 3 ways bulbs i think
my cab still has the 4 lamp grill i'm tryin to get a single light grill also
one thing i'll say is if u leave it outside over the bad months u will get a mouldy car even if u leave it under a cover the water still gets in floods the floor an makes ur interior start goin mouldy
when i get my cabb in my front garden first thing i'll b doin is cleanin it all lol
another thing u wanna look at is the petrol filer neck alot of people has had problems cos they rust best thing to do is replace it with a plastic neck whhich i will b doin weather i need to or not just to keep on the safe side lol

Ah ok mate, thanks for the tips! Im HOPING to store it in the garage over the nastier months- im going to give it a good valet at weekend and maybe a mop and wax up next week!
Oh and i take it the single lamp grilles are the same as normal mk1 gtis? i.e you can get them on ebay for 20ish quid?
-
I was going to say, have my main on my single still..thinking of upgrading the wiring loom though as I'm doing the elecs anyway...
Fuel neck, as mention, is under the "common rusty" bits...
hey..if were all fancying changing to a plastic - how about someone starts a group buy? between us and the mk1 forum, reckon we could get a good deal? :undecided:

I have a 4 lamp grille and my dipped and main are on the main lamps, the spots are on the fog light switch which is two stage, halfway for the front all the way for the rear.
