Title: VDO Temp Gauge
Post by: bj7115 on 16 March 2009, 21:13
I am in the process of fitting a 170degree VDO temp gauge to my 1991, 16v mk2.

When using a T piece to retain the MFA read out via my existing temp sender do I need a specific additional temp sender to match the VDO gauge or can I just us another temp sender similar to the one I already have?

If I do need a specific temp sender then can anyone advise the correct part number and where to source one from?

You need the one to match the VDO gauge. If you use the MFA one you'll get perculiar results. I'm using the MFA one with my VDO gauges and its reading 140 degrees on the VDO, if I swap it back to MFA I get 100 degs.

I don't have the VDO sender, I'm having to get the seller off eBay to post it me out so that I can pop that in.

Got my blue sensor for 8 quid ish incl VAT!

What are the engine temp supposed to be at? M ine's sitting at 60 ish on the MFA and 65 on the VDO. Think I still ahve an airlock though. Heaters go cold every now and then!

Oil temp should be about 100 degs when warm

Is there any reason why it's reading low? I've got the blue temp sender in, and the MFA hooked up to the oil sender in the waterway, and they both read below 50.
