I notice that in several threads people are thinking of trading in MK5's for the new MK6's??
Just wondering who as actually seriously considering trading in their MK5 for the new model - whether a standard or a GTI MK6?.....
Is it really the best time to be trading in, with the recession and all? Also, why would anyone bother? Just so that they have a newer car??
-
I don't think I would bother upgrading to a standard mk6 gti. From what I've heard its only 11 bhp more than the mk5 and much the same suspension etc, nice interior and I like it from the outside too but thats not worth spending 20k + on for that alone . Depending on what the R model turns out to be I might go for that though, an S3 without the arsehole image would be . Or I might go for a Mk5 R32 - I heard a DSG at full chat a couple of weeks ago and almost did a sex wee, I didn't consider it when I got the GTI because at the time petrol was £1.20 + a litre and the road tax thing but the more I see and hear them the more I want
-
Personally, I'm still looking for my MK5!!LOL!! I don't like the styling of the 6 (and I'm not a fan of the 'rocco either)
The MK5 will probably be my only dip into VW ownership, maybe an R32 next ;)

I'm very pleased with my GTI, longest I've ever had a car and I'm quite happy to enjoy it for a few more years and spend money elsewhere. I'll be tempted with a remapped mk6 GTI or a remapped Scirocco as a replacement but I think the r32 replacement will have me desperate to spend again
-
I still like playing about with my ED30 and so won't be trading it in. Even if I get a newer car, I'll probably just convert the MKV to a stripped out track monster
-
I like the idea of the Mk7.
Lighter, tighter and more nimble.
I've yet to see a Mk6 on the road. There must be fields full of them Germany.
-
Seen loads of MK6's in London. Not a fan of the rear at all! Front looks like a sirocco on stilts too!
-
Mk5 is gone in 2 weeks, I'm going back to a mk2. I just don't get on with modern cars.

Having a car start first time without worry does get annoying, then there are the luxuries like climate control, the fact you wont die in a 30mph crash....oh wait hang on!

Have to say though, those mk2's are great fun. Watch this

I won't be changing for a while, I keep seeing loads of MK6s on the road coming towards me in the opposite direction but they always turn out to be Astras.
-
Seen the mk6 golf. Too much like the 'roc TBH.
I plan on keeping the mk5 and maybe buy a mk7/8 depending on whether there's one that looks as good as the mk5.
-
Saw my first ever MK6 on the road today in Tesco's car park. Just a standard one I think, but first one Ive seen outside the showroom. Looked OK I guess, but I prefer the MK5 GTI over it TBH.
The only thing I like about the MK6 GTI are where you have an exhaust at each side of the car, rather then both together like the MK5...
-
I think the MK6 GTI will be very nice and obviously look a lot better than the other standard MK6's that are starting to appear.
Having just bought (or just about to) buy a nearly new MK5 GTI, I would really have liked to have got a MK6 GTI instead, as the new adaptive suspension is tempting when I just want a comfy drive and I think I might prefer the styling. But I don't want to buy a brand new car because of depreciation, waiting for it to be built and the extra attention it would receive for being brand new and rareish on the roads. So I'll wait 1-2 years and get one then and enjoy my MK5 in the meantime! :D

....I prefer exhausts each side too. And I didn't like that black deep plastic rear (like a Ford Ka) on a red GTI, so I modified and look what happened!

Like Hurdy, I've done so much to my Mk5 that I'd have to do similar/equivalent mods to a Mk5.5 Mk6 to satisfactorily match my performance and handling.

....In my opinion that adaptive suspension is a total waste of time. Since when does the sort of GTI driver who is an enthusiast, ever want anything other than tactile feedback from the suspension? Comfy = Comfortably Numb [Great song by Pink Floyd].

Thanks for the 200435th post of that video!
Oldskool rules no doubt, old project + New daily = winner though. And i have seen one mk6, in a ditch on the outskirts of Reading! hope they had gap insurance!

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagreed! old skool ftw!
my mate works in a dealership and said that every new customer that comes in and buys a car has to sign a declaration now if they opt out of the gap insurance scheme, rather than last year it being optional (obviously for no come backs).....a sign of the times!

No upgrade for me. My Mk V is 2 1/2 years old, just touching 15k miles and still looks/drives great.
The Mk VI IMHO is very slab sided and looks fat and heavy. No doubt it does drive well and is an improvement in dynamics, history has shown that VW do not make significant advances in model variants. Given the market and the self serving motor industry, I'd rather burn my car than accept any dealer/trader part-ex valuation, so I'm keeping it
That said, if I did have a few quid lying about, I'd probably go back to a Porker and get a nice 993 but the missus would like a camper
I ain't that old yet

I will be upgrading my Mk4 at some point, probably next year to a Mk5 R32. I quite like the Mk4 R32's but I have had 3 Mk4's now so I think a Mk5 should be next!
I must say I like the Mk6. I have seen a few on the road, but to be honest they are quite hard to spot as the wheels on the lesser models are the same as the Mk5 models!

She's right about the camper van.
Much more fun than some old Porkshire (unless you are having some sort of middle aged crisis).
I took mine around the Nurburgring as fast as it would go, then camped next to the track at Brunnchen corner. Great beery night with some sausage eaters.

I def won't be buying the Mk6 as my Ed30 does everything I want and more. I want/ed the Nissan GT-R, but am reading a lot of posts about problems with the transmission which is a $20k fix, a driveshaft failing and sticking into the road , mandatory (and probably expensive) pre- and post-track dealer inspections - otherwise your warranty is void and bizarre warranty conditions like turning off traction control voids the warranty (I've seen someones scanned manual saying that ) etc.. and not much communication from Nissan. So if Nissan resolve these issues by the time I am ready to order one, I will buy one. If not, then I'll probably recycle my money through an A-Z of drivers cars, keeping each one for 2-3 months max and end up with a Porsche 911. Of course, the Ed30 is staying for good. I might be tempted into a Mk7 depending on how good it is - but that will be for the wife.

would be an Audi RS6 for me mate but we all look for different things in cars!! You can't go far wrong with a 911...

I might do an RS4 on the way up to a 911

You'll find lots of 911 drivers have motorhomes, unless they are city boys with no room to park.
