Post by: matthewsimone on 15 March 2009, 10:19
morning all, has anyone steam cleaned there engine before as my mate owns one of these industrial size karcher hot jet washer thingies and was considering giving my engine and gearbox a quick going over with it but just wandering if anyone has any advice about this ie problems afterwards etc or is it not advisable at all ?

After all this sh!t weather weve had my engine bay etc is looking preety skanky at the moment, so what do you think cheers again

Personaly I wouldn't risk it for the sake of keeping the bit of the car that only a mechanic and me see.  I think the rule is to cover the altenator and other electrical bits (most of the mk5 engine bay) in plastic or tin foil whilst cleaning it...
