sorry i have not posted in a long time !!!!
( this may seem like a repost in did a while back )
the golf is dude a mot soon so realy need to change the Ignition Switch ! at the moment i have leaft the new one hanging there
are the any parts i need to get from vw ? shear bolts or maybe a collier shim on the strearing shaft, i can remember chaining the Ignition Switch on a 6npolo was a total fatherless son to do. thinking back it may have been easier to grind of and replace a dam collier nut of ( yep really ! ) ??? any one done it this way ?
will also have to get a puller :(

Good luck, I ended changing my steering column as it turned out to be easier than sorting the switch, is the housing worn.
-
the worst job in the world auto tech quy had to try with 3 different pairs of bearing pullers to get the steering colum apart...
ended up using a pair ment for a LGV. but git there in the end . pert only cost £22 from VW but another £120 to get the job done.

Same, i paid a GOOD auto electrician £110 to do mine. The switch is about £12.

I managed to get a inner column with switch and a lock set for £45 delivered but took me 3hrs to replace the column.

really not looking forward to changing the switch

I had my local garage sort mine, cost 89.50
They've always done me proud when I need work done

The collar was real hard to get off mine, so the steering column came out and the collar went in a vice and the column was hit with a large hammer
Did the trick. Once that collar is off it was easy, all I paid for was the switch. If you can get the collar off without having to take the column out it's much much easier because it's sheer bolts to take out otherwise which took ages.
This is the way I wanted to do mine http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3421753&postid=48295655 (http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3421753&postid=48295655)
