i want to fit a remote centarl locking kit to my golf
i bought a kit with 3 solenoids but how do you fit the solenoid for the boot locking ??
or am i being a comlete fool ??
-
Your a fool ;)
I'll take a photo of how I did mine for you, its a bit 'different'
-
excremant
thank you ben

Right, this probably won't be ideal for you, but I fitted this about 3 years ago with whatever I had laying about at the time.
Its worked perfect without fail, but it looks bodgy

Just noticed I've got some nice rot inside the boot lid too - awesome
The rubber bandy bit is to pull the solenoid back to normal position after firing. As I used a spare normal door lock pusher, it doesn't return to centre - hence the rubber band.
The metal wire is just so I could mount the popper transversely, and it takes less effort for it to open because its a 'pully' type system, physicsy stuff and all that.

is that a "lock " or an "open" soliniod ??
how does it work cos i aint got a clue :undecided: :undecided: :undecided:
-
Ooookey dokey. What I've done is put a solenoid in the hatch that simply replicates the action of pushing the button on the boot plinth.
But because I disconnected the button's mechanism, you can't open the boot from the outside at all - even if you have the key - pushing the button is futile, its not connected to anything. Mine opens from a spare button on my alarm remote.
If you want to replicate the action of putting the key in the lock and turning it - then I'm not sure how you go about that, as I haven't done it. But if you look at the internals of the boot, it should all be pretty straight forward.

ok ok i see :)
i was wondering how VW did it :-
A as factory
B how the dealers retro fitted cental locking
as i cannot work it out
-
Hows this ...

I've not got a close-up view, that's the best I've got.
But factory fitted, you still used the button popper, but the solenoid just pulled the mech out the way of the button by the looks of things.

thats ace its even in my colour
-
any one else wanna help ??
bit stumped on it
-
I was in a scrapyard today and there was a MK2 with the original central locking still fitted.
I was going to take a photo for you, but I couldn't open the boot (there was another car on top).
-
doesnt factory Central locking use vacuum ??
-
Yarp
-
the factory locking uses a long rod attached to the boot lock, which is actuated by a vacuum servo like the rest of the locks. the manual lock button is completly different so isnt going to work. The central locking lock also has 3 positions rather than 2, 'always locked', 'always open' and 'central locking'
I have converted mine to aftermarket central locking without much bother, i took a factory central locking lock and mechanism, and bodged an electric servo to it. hardest part was running the wires thru the tailgate, but not that bad. Done my petrol flap too ;)
-
could i have a piccy please jonny ???
do you have a spare central locking lock ???
-
How much are you willing to pay for one, because I can strip it all off this VW in the scrappy near me at the weekend if you want. But seen as though I'll be doing it from inside the boot with another car on top - I'll want hazard pay
