Hi everyone,
I've read a lot about people going for remaps, well i was wondering if its possible to detune or remap a GTI so it only has say 140 bhp? many people have the mechganism which allows them to select standard mapping or tuned mapping at the flick of a switch.
can you have normal 200bhp (standard on GTI) as one of the selected maps and then 140 bhp as the other map choice? thanks in advance, C4

Yes, with a Revo select plus switch, you can have Valet mode which reduces the car's power
-
thats not a bad idea, I may consider that for the wife ;)
On second thoughts, I'll just buy her another car. Dont want kerbed alloys!

Lol! Reminds me of a time my grandad wanted to drive my dads car, a CL55 AMG  I put the speed limiter on so it topped out at 40mph, he comes back "rubbish, no throttle response"

hahaha!
thats a great one! lol

thats awesome! so if i get the revo select plus switch it can be set to a certain lower HP? any idea how much it is reduced by? or do i get to set it myself?
its gonna be great cos my relative needs a car for a few days and i am the "victim". do you think it will increase the fuel economy by much? would be great it it saved loads of petrol cos i'll be supplying the first tank!

never thought of de-tuning the gti, nice idea

Ooh this is very interesting. I will be doing mainly city crawling driving, so if you could increase mpg while tootling it would be great. Then switch to standard when out normally.
I wonder if insurers would deal with it ok, might be a bit surprised.

I wouldn't consider the valet mode for fuel saving reasons. It basically cuts all boost and limits the revs to 3000. You can do that with your right foot quite easily in traffic.
-
Ahh ok, plus I'd have to actually buy the chip of course, negating any fuel saving. I guess when traffic is really slow, I'll just get out and push. :D

sounds like limp mode, and thats no fun

that sounds absolutely perfect for when i lend my car to my relative, the car will still be driveable though wont it? do you have the limp mode/ valet mode function when you get the remap and buy the switcher?
So heres basically what I've gathered so far, but please correct me if im wrong...
I have a completely standard GTI, I go to somewhere like JKM perforamnce and get a remap to whatever bhp (i think its 240 or 250?) then i get the switch that allows me to change from standard map (200hp) or tuned map (240/250hp), no other mods nessesary and all will be fine and i will also have the function to switch to valet mode which is super slow and dull but still usuable for everyday driving.
Is this correct?
I understand that i may have to use a forge DV valve as the standard one has a weak diaphram.
many thanks people :)

Depends on what model DV you have. The recent DVs are meant to be quite good. The one I had was version B which was known for being sh!te. The most recent ones like G (I think ? ?) are meant to be pretty good :)

It will still drive, but it's more for moving a car around a workshop etc. If they try to pull out from a busy junction or roundabout it could end nasty. If you're going for REVO with the select switch you can alter boost and timing to something more appropriate but without having it at full power.
-
ah right i think i understand now, i was looking at the revo unit with the PLUS switch but i wasnt too sure on exactly how much it can be tweaked, it said boost 1 to 9 and timing 1 to 9, but what is 1 and what is 9? i still have so much to learn but its best if i learn it before i buy it
so would you say there is much room to adjust everything so it can be half its original power? from what i've read so far i think i can only have it either standard hp or tuned 250hp.
