Without going overboard and getting a full Meguiars detailing kit, or something mad like that. What essentials do you think everyone should have in their detailing kit? Obviously money is sometimes a factor, so good value for money products always help  Just a good set of the basic things for doing a nice detailing to your car on a mild weathered SUnday afternoon!

Is this for your car Bob? Or just in general?
-
1. Two buckets for washing with two-bucket method
2. Decent shampoo
3. Clay bar with lubricant spray
4. Filler polish (eg AG SRP) - for those times when you can't/don't know how to machine polish
5. Decent wax
6. Durable wax eg collinite
7. Bumper/vinyl care
8. Glass cleaner
9. Tyre care
10. Metal polish
11. Lambswool/microfibre washmitt
12. A whole host of microfibre cloths varying in size from small to large for various jobs.

Bump for my benefit :P

Just get a clay bar kit, decent polish and collinite wax (Or i find PoorBoys Natty Blue is good for our colour) that will be about £40 but should show the results nicely!
-
So does clay barring just just clean up the paint, or help make it shinier too?
-
It removes bonded contaminants and realy does make the paint work feel as smooth as glass, have a butchers at this :-

Bob, claying is the best thing you can do to your car if it's never been done before. It will make the paint really smooth and will help make it shinier!
