Looks like the problems are coming thick and fast now....
My MK1 GTI cabrio had a fuel leak from the accumulator in front of the tank when I viewed the car. This had to be replaced for the MOT (last Thursday). Just got to work this morning with a strong smell of petrol when I got out of the car. The new accumulator is leaking worse than the old one. It seems to be leaking from the back, nowhere near the 2 pipe joints!! Has anyone else had this happen?

Not seen that before ???

It's leaking from the small screw at the back, so the diaphragm has gone. Got a new one from G&S, but it was the wrong one, much bigger and wrong sized unions. According to G&S they should all be the same. I ended up going to a Bosch Injection specialist and they have ordered a new one by part number rather than application. ?55 from specialist ?87.50 from a VW dealer :o

Fitted the new part and it seems to be running OK now. I now reckon that the car had the wrong part fitted to start with. Although the new one fits to the pipes, the bracket to hold it to the chassis is bigger than the unit, indicating that maybe the the one supplied by G&S was correct after all (it was a bigger unit). This may also explain the early failure of the last accumulator (after 70 miles) as it may not be man enough for the job, so I'll have to keep an eye on things.
