Hi there.
I got a Golf mk4 1.8T 150bhp witch i got remaped in the UK.
before i got my car remaped by some known company witch i can´t remember the name of it.
i had bought an ecu off ebay and stupadly i removed my car ecu opened it
opened the one i bough of ebay and with a soldering iron
i removed the chip from my ecu and swoped it with the one from ebay and from there on words
the car used to miss fire and gerk,
but worst of all sometimes it used to drain allmost my batery
just to start the car up and it used to smoke a lot when starting.
thinking that by remaping the ecu on my car it would sort out this problem.
it made my car allmost back to normal.
i came and live in portugal since 2007 and 2 or 3 months after getting here the car
just stoped completly. took it to a garage and had it diagnosed and i was told
the the ecu was gone. phoned up my dad witch still lives in london and him to go to VW and buy me a new ecu witch cost around 600 quid
Cos vw in portugal dont sell the GTI Turbo they quote me allmost a 1000 quid for a new ECU and i wood have to wait a week to 10 days for it.
since then the car has driven like new.
My question is can i plugg my old ecu and try to read the map file of it and write it back on the new ecu or is it too dangerus just in case i blow this one too....
i miss the extra power and response that the car had.
unfortinatly cars sold in portugal are 95% disel and 5% petrol and most petrol cars are only 1.6 tops so any ware i try here i cant get a remap for my car.
can i buy the Map file and upload it my self on my car or what is the best way for me to remap my car again. i have ELM327 if that helps.

quickest and easiest way is to contact Nick / Ben at R-Tech (or any other company lol)
post them your ECU - they upload a map file, you pay them some money, they post it back to you, you re-fit and start smiling again :smiley:

That is a way to go but i need the car to and from work. i leave 15 miles away and i need the car cos there is no other way of transport near by

some times you have to go wrong to get things right.
another thing guys
on the mk3 golf i used to know something that you used to do with the ignition and the clock or the trip milage reset boton i cant remember witch but if the car had a digital clock were the dials are you could see the engine rev displayed digitaly exactly like the analog rev needle and some other things.
i have been told that simuler things can be done on the mk4 but nobody i spoke to knows how!!!!!!

It will only work with the ME7.5 ecu not the older 3.8 found on the non dbw engines.

I dont want to go for something like this. If im going to get my car remaped again i want to do it with a proper map file. like the one i had my my old ecu. it was pulling out 197bhp when i put the new ecu and the car is std 150bhp it felt so slow and diferent and it still is. it pulls quite good fot thr std 150bhp but i miss the fun and the car being so lively.

i changed the oil, and oil filter 1 week ago done it my self. now i need to get the timing belt changed water pump etc.
ove here in portugal they rip you off badly. went to get a few quotes from garages the cheapest one i got was 700 euros witch is about 650 quid......whaaaauuuuuu :shocked:

Im quite familier with my car and my car engine and i want to give it ago at changing the timing belt my self. i have seen it get done on diferent car mines and my dads in the uk from a friend mechanic and lookingat it my self it dident seam to hard. the only tricky bit is aligning the pulley and the belt. i have seen a topic on this were is very nicely explained and with fotos but some fotos are hard to see cos there too zoomed and out of focus. can some one direct me or explain to me how the lignement is done.

how much do the guys at R-Teck charge for a remap. and is it the same price if i post it

Hello,
I wont supply an unlocked map file our options are come to us, send the ecu or get the powergate tool.
The powergate will allow you to remap your car using one of our remap files which will be locked to your tool and car. It will the the same map which I would flash to a customers car, just your doing the flash part of it.
