anyone have the resonated milltek on their car?
the non res isnt for me, as its way too noisy...
what are the advantages of the resonated milltek over the stock item?
have spoken to loads of resellers, some of whom dont really know what they are on about...
so talking to owners who have em is the quickest way to find an honest answer.
what say you?

On the resonated Millteks, they have an additional centre silencer (of the resonating function), which is in a similar location to the OEM centre silencer. On the non-res versions, this centre silencer is deleted.
Both Milltek versions use the same rear silencer, and all Milltek silencers (and associated pipework) are a little less restrictive than the OEM components.
But sound-wise - well that is very much a personal preference. And it also seems to be more variable with different engines. The VR6 engine does seem to be a little 'boomy' at certain revs (irrespective of which type of exhaust is used), whereas the GTIs 4pot lump doesn't have those issues.
HTH - but you really need to listen to another R32 with a res version.

your right, i do..and youtube isnt any good as it isnt in the flesh... a few user experience's might help...preferably off mk5 r32 owners...not vr6 or gti :grin:
have to disagree about the 4 pot..i put one on my gti and took it straight off again. it was cack, and sounded quite farty especially on the motorway at 80...it was embarrassing...
i did however have one on an S4 avant i had ( v8) and it sounds lush..that was resonated...so i agree its car dependant...
anyone got one on their r32? ( mk5)

Hmmmm . . . how long have you had it on your R32? And how long on your GTI? Because I think that Millteks need some time to basically 'bed in' - just to get some coke on the insides of the silencers, and this then makes the sound more 'mature'.

But resonated will be quieter than non-res. And the V8 in the S4 has an equal firing order, wheras the VR6 has a slightly unusual firing order which creates distinctive pulses in the exhaust - and this is what makes the R32 'boomy'. This boomy sensation doesnt affect a conventional angle V6 (or an inline 4, or the V8) though.

But seriously I've never had any boomy or farty sounds from it, certainly not on the motorway. Perhaps it varies from car to car but it's certainly never been loud like you said it was on your car, or perhaps it's just matured a bit.

To be fair mate this is a GTI forum, not many R32'ers here.
Get on R32oc.com as there are loads of people with milteks on, someone put one on today!

I get my Millteck sport cat back fitted to my GTI next week at AMD :smiley:. I have gone for the resonated cat back (QUIETER). Is this a good choice any one? Not sure about non resonated version. :huh:

I have to say that if someone is lucky enough to have a R32 V6 they are committing sacrilege not to have a Non-Resonated Milltek!
The zorst music is one of the reasons to buy a R32!!

A Milltek on the mk4 R32 was pretty much a necessity due to the OEM system droning. The res version I fitted was similar to stock on the inside (without the drone), and made the 'R32' sound slightly more pronounced on the outside.
I then had a non res Milltek on the Edition 30 which was too loud/droning on the motorway (although nice at other times), then the res version which was basically the same as the OEM if not quieter.
As far as the mk5 R32 goes I think the stock system is very nice and louder then than the res Milltek on a mk4 R32 was, I am guessing the res Milltek will sound much the same. Non res Milltek on a mk5 is very loud iirc.

smr dog bucket had the same problem as me with his non res on his e30....droney as foooooook.
anyhow, i've susssed it.
am going to buy the resonated system and buy the non res centre pipe as well.
then i can swap them around at leisure :laugh:
